Just fitting some new pads on the the Pug and was surprised by the amount of chamfer on the pads :shock: Can't think of a good reason for so much. Any ideas?

The geek in me got the better of me and I found this:

http://www.kyu.edu.tw/teacpage/teacpage ... C98-69.pdf

Seems it's to reduce brake squeal and the loss of stability/efficiency that results. The reduce pad area is of little consequence as Amontons law states that friction force remains the same.

Stops Squeal as rar as I know, if you chamfer it down to 3mm, then when they start to sqeal, you need to check the pads.
Really must remember and do this to the next set of pads.....

:lol:

An interesting subject, brake and tyre sizes are really about heat management and wear rates. 8)

FFS. We is not all engineers.

Stamp on the brake pedal, the car stops. Take your foot off the brake pedal the car un-stops....Unless you have a real old and dodgy S1 or a water bottle under the brake pedal. Simples. 8)

The car doesn't "un-stop" when you take your foot of the brake. The accelerator makes the car "un-stop" or using the technical term go.

Now we are getting somewhere. The above is far easier to understand than the man from MIT (Mind Induced Tedium).

Accelerate = un-stop
Brake = un-go

I like that :thumbsup
