Camera vans

Post by craigs135s » Thu Feb 14, 2013 6:15 pm

Hi folks

I have a question about camera vans... I was going about a few mph over the 50 limit on the road I was on when my good lady said police so slowed up to 50 mph. There was a large mpv in front of us so when passing the van I was back at 50. Would they have managed to catch me before hand?

Any information would be appreciated.

Cheers

I think so. I've just been done by camera van in similar circumstance but I guess there is only one way to find out. Best of luck

Depends on line of sight. If they could tag you before you slowed (physically point the camera at you and hit the button) then good chance you'd be done if going quick enough. Could be really lucky and the operator was having a sip from his coffee...

Guess you're in for the nervy wait at the letterbox for the next few weeks.

On a 50 limit Craig, the van would probably be set to 57. As your speedo probably over reads by about 3, if you we're at no more than 60 indicated you would be OK.

The van would have pinged you, normally just as you come around the corner, the only way around is if you are flashed from the opposite direction to warn you, and you then slow down before the camera reads your plate.

The van wasn't on a bridge just at the side of the road and there was a fair but of traffic with a large MPV in front of us so hoping we seen it before it seen us.

Thanks for the replys.

The NIP usually arrives within three days as it is completly computerised and does not need human intervention. The old Gatsos with films in could take upto 14 days.

As far as I know Shug, the camera carries out the action on its own some, automatically records the speed if it is above the set limit, then a photo of the number plate, finally a photo of the driver as you get closer. The driver can just sit there drinking his coffee if he actually has that much coordination, ie a trained tea drinking monkey could do the same job for a few bananas.

That's a dying courtesy these days. Hardly ever see that compared to when I first took to the roads... :(

Given they have to paint the van and speed cameras in bright colours so that you see them, what offence are you committing by flashing your lights to increase the visibility of the camera van? Genuine question - would like to know.

‘Speeding motorists need to be spoken to so they will seriously consider their irresponsible driving.’

If that's the case then what's with all the speed cameras?
