Well I was looking for a decent 993 or 964 but a good one is rare to find.
Simon got the last one....

C4S or Turbo looks a decent bet.
Market is strong for them. I've missed out on 3 this week (C4s).

There's another C4S up for sale in your neck of the woods at the moment.

Friend of the guy I bought mine from.

If you fancy a Red one, PM me or give James a bell for the details!!

Cheers,

Dave.

Genuinely very surprised at this.

It's a couple of years since I've been around the Porsche forums but at that time you could have gleaned enough information to have written a book on 996 engine problems. The 997 was widely regarded as far more robust all round being an improved evolution of the 996 although the very occasional IMS issue did rear it's ugly head.

They didn't have a forecourt full of 996's when they were telling you about it's newfound Lexus like reliability did they ? :damnfunny

Anyway I hope you enjoy the car. I hope to rekindle the Porsche flame myself in the near future. They are truly very special cars indeed as those who have owned will testify.

 lol.. no! I did wonder though!

I was surprised too. You see plenty 997s on the road so they can't all be rubbish surely!? But it was fairly consistent responses I got. The Gen 2 997 seems to be a totally different proposition though.

Happy enough with the C4S for the time being... just need to sort the PSE mishap and all will be well!

:cheers

I've owned several Porsche models over the years (front engined, air cooled, water cooled, mid engined) including an identically trimmed 986 Boxster. The plastics are hard and shiny, the seat leather sags and shows wear and tear too easily. It is not a high end, quality item.

A late 90's VW Golf has a far classier cabin. Regards,

haha, such a shame he just sold a golf gti to buy the 911. What a way to downgrade <BG>

Shame for you it's a 2006 golf you bought, not a late 90s... :P

Good thing Jeremy is talking nonsense though ... 90s golf interior better than a 996 ?!?! .. might be time to retire the rose tinted specs  :ROFL

The MKIV Golf was the biggest game changer of the last 20 years, possibly more, in terms of interior quality.
Look at what went before it and what has came after it. Ford delayed the launch of
the then new Mondeo to revamp the interior once they seen how much VW had moved the game on with this car. Damped grab handles. Soft touch plastics. This is where it all started.

In response to the 996 and the 986, Lotus offered carpets and a radio. That's all you need to know :damnfunny

Not being defensive. Just trying to correct people when they're wrong. :D

I'd been guilty of dismissing the 996 on the basis of its 'cheap' interior in the past and their exploding engines... based purely on the nonsense spouted on the internet too often.

Fact is, I have one now and the interior is much better quality than I'd been led to believe. Is it the best?? nope...could it be better??? yes. However, to suggest a basic mid 90s family hatchback is better quality etc is just a bit daft and definitely not accurate. Worst Porsche interior ever??? maybe in terms of style in some opinion, but absolutely not the case in terms of quality. That's a fact, not an opinion.

Totally understand people may not like the style, we all have personal opinions on that and none are 'facts'... but it is a fact that the 996 interior is a good quality one. At least in mine anyway. Maybe others haven't been so lucky. Who knows.

I just wish I'd found out for myself sooner instead of listening to the interneters. Need to remember, if everyone listened to internet nonsense.... very few of us would drive a Lotus.

I'm happy in the knowledge that I'm right. If others want to argue and make themselves sound a bit silly... feel free.

:thumbsup

This is the bit you're getting back to front. The 996 interior looks quite nice in my opinion, even by modern standards. Quality wise, it's ok, depending on what you're comparing it against. But it's not Porsche's finest hour in terms of quality. That's my opinion based on my own experience of having owned 5 Porsches over 3 decades and you'll find countless other far more prolific serial Porsche owners who've had lived with everything from 924, 944, 928 right through various 911 variants, Boxsters and Caymans saying exactly the same thing.

But like I said before as long as you're enjoying your first taste of Porsche ownership then who cares what anyone else thinks. They're special cars. Enjoy.
