MOT catalytic failure s2

Post by martins » Wed Oct 10, 2012 1:53 pm

Exige has failed first MOT. CAT needs to be replaced and is not under warranty although only bought the car from Murray's in March this year. The Lotus sport replacement is a 4 figure cost (just)..

Any ideas on how to soften the blow? Anyone got a spare cat they want to sell?

Martins,

I have a CAT and backbox in my lockup, you would be more welcome to borrow it to get your car through its MOT.

Where have you gone to get your MOT done as mine is due its first also?

I am a bit dubious of mine passing to be honest, the MIL light keeps coming on due to emissions. That is a 2ubular 200 cell CAT so I might need it myself.

If I can be of any help give me a shout.

Cheers,

Steve

Think I also have a manifold and cat in the garage.

I could sell you mine if you want to buy it.

Anyone got any idea what it's worth?

Has done about 18k and was on the car for 2 years

Thanks for all the offers. Car is at Murray's. Waiting for some info from Craig before I can make a decision. If goes to plan I will get the car back from Murray's minus the MOT. Mike I will borrow your cat. Pass the MOT. Then buy a decat pipe. Take the cat off and give back to Mike. Fit the decat pipe. Buy Scottys cat and keep on the garage for future MOTs. Amazing what I am prepared to do to avoid a £1100 bill.

Two questions.

Does bump starting an S2 stuff the CAT?? I suspect yes as the MIL is back on and the OBD states its an emissions issue :(

Should not have been so lazy but did not fancy fighting to get to the battery etc etc

Is the speed camera coming down Tyrebagger (Marshall trailers junction) on the A96 outside Aberdeen active? Got flashed last night coming down the hill while cursing at the MIL. Was only doing an indicated 80 Tuts. Charging the battery in 4th gear I was officer....Not a great defence I know.

Damn and blast. Never had a ticket to date.....

I would not have thought a jump start would have any effect on the cat. The MIL light is prob on as the battery had been drained - a few start stop cycles will likely clear it, so I believe.

I can't comment on the speed camera.

I have an S2 160 VVC cat (slightly higher flowing allegedly) available at a good price if you require.

Don't know if it's possible but could you not just remove the internals of the cat and refit that rather than have to buy a cat replacement pipe?

Craig from MMC just called to let me know that bumping the Exige will not have cooked the CAT but it can throw up an emissions error and light the MIL... :D

He also suggested I buy my wife chocolates and flowers and get her to take the points if I get a NIP through the post :D :D

Now that is what I call customer service......

Does that camera not point up the hill so would have been facing you? If thats the case then you're in the clear.
