A big question as to whether it is breaking the the law, if you are caught by plod with one he will tell that you are breaking the law, but the law is very grey in this area, the law does not say that laser diffusers are illegal. As I understand it, it has never been tested in a court, the only conviction I have heard of was where a guy in south wales went through the same mobile camera several times, when the plod stopped him and checked his car, they found the diffuser, the guy pleaded guilty to "Attempting to pervert the course of justice" it was not challenged in court so a precedent has not been set. The other possible offence is "obstructing a Police Officer". I believe that if you had the bottle (and money) to plead not guilty you would have a good chance of getting the case dropped. Remember, these offences are not like motoring offences, therefore you could opt for trial by jury, then the verdict is in the lap of the gods, 11 normal people and one persuasive nutter who hates cars and your guilty, 12 members of SE and a precedent in court will be set.Origin B2 is the one that can be fitted with the laser diffuser?
Do we assume, for the purpose of discussion, that you not have an issue about knowingly breaking the law?
Mac
My suggestion would be if you use a diffuser and it is activated, when you get home, take it off the car for a couple of weeks, expect plod to visit.
If you don't use a diffuser a detector is useless, the most difficult to spot traps will be plod at the side of the road or a mobile camera, both will be laser, by the time the detector has activated, you'll be nicked.
However, the best advice is do not speed, as we all know SPEED KILLS

Yeah, I have mine fitted to the Exige now. Lots of wires and it takes a while to get a tidy installation but quite possible (took me a couple of hours with a bit of trial and error).
GPS aerial front centre of the dash, wire run to nearside.
Laser detector on windscreen behind the rear view mirror, wire around the edge of screen to nearside.
I had the Cradle mounted above the centre vents on the Elise but in the Exige I've put it ON the rear view mirror! (wire also around the edge of the screen). I've put it on the left hand side of the mirror and still plenty left to look backwards between the seats!
I ran power backwards along the sill and behind the pax seat to the 12V socket - easier on the Elise as the power socket was in front of the gearlever. Can also be hardwired...
All the wires were run behind the nearside speaker cover.
It works well and I wouldn't be without it but as I mentioned to you, I would probably go for a RA2 if buying new now...

I have an old 'snooper' type detector, I don't use it all the time, but it does detect before you are caught.
Only problem is it goes of that much with other interference you can tend to ignore it!

Laser detector on the B2 has given a warning a few times for me, always when there are vehicles ahead. You get scatter as they target those in front. (Not that I was speeding of course)
When there is nothing ahead they have a reading by the time it went off...
One thing it tells you is that they are operating the laser cameras outside the law as they target every car not just 'to confirm prior opinion of speed'. They ALWAYS target my car, even if I'm obviously doing less than the speed limit...

The trustworthy officer in court would refer to this as OJT, I formed the opinion that the car was travelling 5mph below the limit and I confirmed that was the case, I am just making sure that my judgement of a car's speed is as good as it should beOne thing it tells you is that they are operating the laser cameras outside the law as they target every car not just 'to confirm prior opinion of speed'. The way that PC Notsobright can shaft himself in court is by saying I formed the opinion that the Vehicle reg number SK52 HCY was travelling at 99mph and I then confimred this with my Superaccuratelasergunvideocameraunit, to which the switched on Brief (after viewing the video) then asks, you can easily read a number plate at 900m can you Constable?
Or more likely in the case of SK52 HCY, that is amazing Constable, as the video clearly shows that the number plate actually reads 52 HCY.

Not that I don't trust those important people who run the Scamera units, but it will be a surprise if the Lying b@$tards have ever behaved correctly on any particular case.

As I have mentioned earlier, speedkills, and to quote Lothian and Borders Scamera Partnership "Only Fools speed" which is the sort of advice we'd all do well to take.
