We have a barn owl across the road somewhere - scared he sh!t out of me one night
I was on the patio clearing up and it swooped over the top - no warning (obviously) just a massive white owl appearing from the dark!
I must have looked sickly or tasty...!

We have had a bird box in the garden fitted with a wireless camera that is rigged to the TV in the bedroom, so we see the tits nesting there every year and the young ones hatching and feeding until they fly off.

Hi Phil, yes it appears to be a Tawny, I had no idea they can live from 5-30 years and can stay in the same nesting site for upto 100 years passing it down through the generations

I have got some woodland at the back of garden. I remember the first night in our then new house about 2.5 years ago wondering if the local zoo had escaped. All sorts of strange animal noises, shrieks, mating calls etc. including a couple of owls. Local countryside ranger has put up a few owl boxes nearby and guess they are occupied. Hear the woodpeckers during the day and we see 3 or 4 roe deer virtually every morning in our wood or the field beyond, much to the frustration of our lab. Got a pic somewhere I took through the kitchen window of 11 pheasants pecking the grass in our back garden. I love it!

Had a Twany Owl going roof top to roof yelping for a while around midnight last night, could just make out the silhouette. Don't usually hear them as loudly or making a yelp.

Our Tawny has been much more active over the last few weeks, I think it's great as I can watch it from the couch 8) One downside though, last Saturday 4.45am I was awoken by crows making a hell of a racket, much louder and frantic than I'd heard before. I looked out and here was about 50 of them in the tree mobbing the owl who was perched there not looking too fussed. Ended up having to go out to scare them off because of the noise, might have to look out the old black widow catapult incase they return :) Another couple pics

Got a heron...
It's already finished off the fish and is now eyeing up the frogs.
Quite intimidating up close. Might also need to get the blak widow down from the loft.
