New MBA 11"

Post by tut » Mon Jul 01, 2013 9:47 pm

Just received the new 2013 Macbook Air 11" as a replacement for the stolen one. I have been handling the claim as Ian is away so much. That was a 2010 model with no backlighting, 2GB memory and 64GB SSD.

The new model has the Haswell chip, and with 4GB/128GB is far faster and responsive even running Windows 7 in a VM. The biggest improvement though is battery life, 9 hours now instead of 4 even with the backlighting on, and with the new OS named Maverick due out, it is going to be longer still.

Best move that I made was changing over from my Windows desktop machine in the study, to my 1kg use anywhere MBA.

I think I have just bricked my wife's MacBook Pro. Won't charge and won't power on with the battery out.

Pretty pretty paperweight.

I am very tempted to buy one of these. You mention you have windows 7 running on it? Is this something you have purchased seperately?

Also don't really like the period where I am in a constant state of learning but hopefully it wouldn't too long to get to get to grips with it

Tut, what do you need Windows 7 running on the machine for?

One of the joys of leaving corporate life was not having a PC laptop thrust in front of you, I now run a MacBook Pro Retina as my everyday machine and it has been an absolute pleasure for the last 4 months. Not once have i missed anything to do with windows!

I need to run Quicken 2004 which was the last version released before Intuit stopped producing it. I have my accounts for the past twenty years on it, so it is the most important program that I have. Tried the MAC version but it makes a mess of importing my accounts file, so sticking to Q2004

Very easy to get to grips with using an Apple and to run Windows on it you just need an existing version, preferably 7, then there are three programs that will load it into a Virtual Machine. Bootcamp is an installed application so free, but I use Parallels which is very comprehensive. The on screen instructions make it easy to set up, and you can then have MAC OS and Windows running side by side with instant switch between them, no need to restart to run the other OS.

Hi,

Quicken essentials (for OSX), will import Q2004 pretty cleanly. I changed up from 04 to 07 then essentials. Saves having to run Windoze, even if it is fun to see how bad Win 8 is.

Cheers,

Lindsay

Apple Macs like Kindles, almost always sell at their retail price, unlike other computer products.

However if anybody is in the market for one, Groupon have an offer on MBA's at £90 off.
