Trip round the compass points of Scotland
Hi,
This is a trip I did with friends a few years ago to raise money for CHAS when I had a bike.We set off from Thurso and went to Dunnett Head,to a lighthouse near Peterhead(Buchan Ness??)on to the Mull of Galloway and then to the lighthouse at Ardnamurchan Point. These I believe are the extreme compass points of mainland Scotland. Was a good trip and I'm planning repeating it during the summer sometime using decent driving roads wherever possible.Won't have time to have any fund-raising organised but still a good 2/3 days away.
Anybody fancy it??

A fine road trip theme, I would say
Not sure I could bag a pass to take part but you got me thinking.
When, roughly...?
Putting the route together would be fun in itself

We're planning a similar trip next month. Applecross, Gairloch, Dunnet Head, John O'Groats, Black Isle and home. I just hope Katharine regains sufficient flex in her knee to be able to get into the Elise, otherwise we'll be using the Discovery.

Haven't thought too hard about when cos I've to speak to a mate who's coming as co-pilot but it will be in "summer"....June/July or August at the latest.

Re: Trip round the compass points of Scotland
Right here's the rough plan:
Friday 23rd Aug,leave Dunnet Head and hit Ardnamurchan point then on to around Oban for the night
Saturday 24th,Oban to Mull of Galloway and probably back to Dunning for the night
Sunday 25th,Dunning to Buchan Ness and across to Inverness to part company with co-pilot
Monday26th,DAY OFF.....all Lotus'd out for a while!!
Night stops will be flexible, nature of the beast is stop when tired....Scotland's not that big and you always know where you want to spend the night.
Anybody fancy part/whole trip then all welcome, just a bit of fun for 2 old geezers, different pubs, etc, etc

Sounds like a good trip. Don't think we can manage this one.
Enjoy.

Have a great time. I'd order some midge repellant though, or pick some up at Ness Soaps in Inverness.

Cancelled for obvious reasons
Doubt the insurance will be sorted out by then and next 111R in the drive but we can hope

Re: Trip round the compass points of Scotland
Don't worry, you will soon have another Lotus and you can still do this trip at some point.
You are not the first to crash and you won't be the last. At the end of the day, you walked away from a bit of metal. Even more important, nobody innocent was involved or injured.
What about this one?

Phone Craig at MMC, he will help you sort most things out, and get you back in something else.

Must point out to Craig that their adverts need updating.

Might still do this, had a word with co-pilot and maybe going to use his RX8......anyone got half a dozen jerrycans for fuel....jesting,it's not TOO bad if you keep the revs down.
Just got to get to Thurso now,do I look too dodgy to hitch?
