Post by jj » Thu Oct 27, 2005 8:16 pm

I need to get hold of a new dipstick, as the one I have has lost a bit off the end.

Any ideas?

I'd take a shot at your nearest Rover dealer. Should still have parts lying around, failing that any k series car from a scrappy.

Also I think Eliseparts do a nice coloured one of your choice.

Rover dealer, but get a metal one.

The question you should be asking yourself is where did the end go to?

Ill go to mchargs in whiteinch tomorrow. Think they still have a rover parts desk. I take it the dipstick will be the same as an early MGF one?

As for the location of my end, its lost somewhere in the last 5 years / 39k miles. Brunty noticed it at the my service, and after searching SELOC, it seems like it happens. Just one of those things.

Just ask for a 1.8 K series dipstick - The yellow plastic ones are prone to the tip snapping off (as has been the case).

Hopefully it's been flushed out from the sump during the past x miles - next time you might not be so lucky and it could end up in the oil pump (think mechanical heartattack) or in one of the many oilways (mechanical DVT)

Metal one were brought out for this reason but it is harder to spot the oil on them.

As for Macharg, they do still have a parts department but it's not at the showroom any more. It's about halfway down the road that used to have the silos on it.

Cheers

Oh, and the dipstick is a Rover 200 item - the MGF one is longer, as it has a weird dipstick/top-up setup on that car.
