I'm looking in from the outside, but could a lot of the issues being raised be sorted by splitting turbo and aspirated cars?

power is power....
weight is weight....
Folk are classed on their peak power, if they choose to run low boost in non point scoring sessions it is their choice... and normally a wise one
NA cars are much more reliable LOL

I do not comply unless I fit a roll cage and five point harness, but OK with bare feet.

I really dont understand what the big issue is regarding fitting a roll-cage :S
Re: SLS Round 4 - whos in
N3 is a road car that is used on the track also. This is the minimum spec roll bar for an S1 Elise, “A” frame and Petty Bar.
It means that you can not carry a passenger, plus a five point harness has to be fitted as well, total cost over £1.5K. You said that it was weight/hp that was the criteria, N3 is a bog standard car apart for the engine change. I am not even sure what a Sports Libre car is under the regs, is it a separate Class with no cars in it, or is it amalgamated into Classes A to E?

The problem is that N3 has forced induction which increases the capacity to >2000cc under MSA Regs, also as it is not the original manufacturers block, it does not fit in Production, nor Modified Categories, but could be in Sports Libre. The safety requirements for Sports Libre >2000cc include a full cage, which N3 doesn't have.
If it was still a K-Series, even if forced induction, it could be in Modified Category and run road taxed with no cage.
The event classes are for cars in Standard, Modified or Sports Libre with a power/weight division, so really there are A-E x3. It would be much clearer if SLS followed the same class structure as the Scottish Speed Championship.

Renny I do not race ,so I have no idea about rules and reg's but understand they will never suit every one
however I do have a 1.8 turbo k series elise,
the only boosted one ( as far as I am aware ) in scottish competition is a supercharged 1.8 exige that completes in A8 up against n/a mx5's and mgf's ect . In england I think ? the boosted K would have to be a 1.4 because as a 1.8 it would have a Huge advantage = example a road based 1.8 turbo k elise

curtis dyno 290 bhp by hiscot, on Flickr
is this allowed because of scottish speed championship rules ?
in my eyes and because of the huge advantage its not a lot different from tuts , in fact in this case I see weight / power based being better for a level field

Re: SLS Round 4 - whos in
Bob, When I competed in A8 in 2005, the rules were that the engine did not have to be original but had to be the same configuration, ie:- 4 cyl, 16 valve, horizontal. It could also be S/C and there was no power restriction. As A8 was a new Class there were no lap times, so bogey times were set and were easy for me to beat by quite a large margin. As a result I was getting the maximum 32 points at every Sprint event, and if I had managed that I would have been Scottish Sprint Champion with 256 points. KH was also included then which was even better for me. Ali was next behind me in an Elise 160S, a beginner back then but improving very quickly.
However at Boyndie with around three events to go, I could not get out of the car and ended up in a wheelchair, so that was my season finished. Ali ended up as Road Car Champion and also best Newcomer.
For 2006 they changed the regulations so cars for A8 had to be basically standard showroom cars that would not have been able to beat my records. The Exige then put out 190hp. Graeme Bremner managed to get around this by buying an S1 Exige with a 260hp Turbo Technics conversion, which was 50hp more than mine, so he was able to get maximum points and was Scottish Sprint Champion for the next three years until he could not beat his own lap times anymore so changed Classes. How that was classed as a standard factory car I do not know, but good luck to him, he did his homework and achieved his aim.
I may be being cynical, but I believe that one reason for the regs being changed was that if I had finished the season and won the Championship, it would have been a first, as the winner had always come from the racing car Classes, not a road car driven by an OAP. I don't think the bare feet helped either.

Tut the tt260 always made more than stated ,
I sold my tt260 emerald to craig Quote The map that was saved on it was running 0.7 bar
of boost and made 272 BHP with 210 foot/pounds of torque!!
Thanks again Craig.
with modern injectors and mapping they can make a lot more than above

Re: SLS Round 4 - whos in
Renny - There are classes A to E, not 3x A to E.
There is no distinction in prod, mod or sports libre when competing. That is only for entry/scruitineering/regulation purposes.
THERE ARE 4 (or 5!) CLASSES.
A = 400+ bhp tonne
B = 300-400bhp tonne
C = 200-300bhp tonne
D = <200bhp tonne

Re: SLS Round 4 - whos in
So I can compete with my friend in his Elise/Exige/Evora in the same Class with my taxed/insured/MOT road car, but I have to fit a full roll cage and a five point harness.
What sort of sense does that make, or incentive to join in?

True Adam, but the lack of distinction between Categories is not clear in my view. I think we could do more next year to attract others in. Lets chat tomorrowTrackScotland wrote:Renny - There are classes A to E, not 3x A to E.
