Poor radio signal
My 111r has the original DAB radio which gets a poor signal. Are they known for this? What have people upgraded to?
Thanks

Re: Poor radio signal
I had the same issues with the DAB in my 111R, much better off with a decent standard unit.

Re: Poor radio signal
We've just switched Elaine's to FM (same unit - Band button) and the reception is okay. DAB really isn't there for plastic cars...
I'm not sure swapping out the unit will have much effect - it's always been an issue with Elises that reception is crap, the plastic doesn't give any ground plane. You used to be able to put a grounding plate behind the sting aerial on an S1, but of course, no external aerial on the S2. I'd suggest you might be better looking for aerial options (screen perimeter jobs or something) rather than throwing out the head unit.

Re: Poor radio signal
I have a cheap FM unit in N3 and reception is excellent.
I have Radio 2 on most of the time, but it is also good on MW for 5Live.

Re: Poor radio signal
The problem is in part electrical interference from the engine bay ... if you switch the ignition to accessories does the reception improve? You might have to wait 30s for the ECU to decide it will power down, etc.

Re: Poor radio signal
The DAB radio reception in my NA Exige was actually pretty good. I retro fitted a DAB stereo into the RGB with a JVC HAL1 aerial along the bottom left of the windscreen and that worked well too. The same stereos now in the V6 just waiting on me getting round to fitting an aerial.

Re: Poor radio signal
Of course I have a Honda engine, so that is probably the reason.

Re: Poor radio signal
The DAB reception in our S-Max was pish poor. It would drop the signal going into the multi-storey carpark in Livingston. Now locked on FM and no issues.
I guess it's a combination of poor antenna placing/design & materials. Plus along similar lines to Digital TV in order to maximise the coverage/reception you need to free up spectrum currently used by FM ? Digital TV was plagued with poor reception until the analogue was switched off allowing wider coverage at higher output powers.
