New Car NLC

Post by renmure » Tue Nov 12, 2013 11:05 am

Following in the footsteps of some other SEers I went hunting for an Aston Martin V8 Vantage. I hadn't really paid much attention to them till quite recently when I saw one more closely and thought it looked (and sounded) fabulous.

Anyhow, I signed up to the AM email alert where they ping you a message before anything is advertised if a Dealer is getting a car in and hey presto... having lunch in Tescos (it is cheap!!).. an 07 car, 1 owner, 12k miles and perfect spec for me appeared on the phone and 30 mins later I had agreed to buy it and 2 weeks later I was heading down to Chichester to collect it. Can't speak any more highly of Harwoods Aston Martin sales team. They promised the car would look "as new" and it did.

I have already fitted high performance race cats to it to increase the ROAR and it is a genuinely giggly glorious noise.

And a back / back video before we fitted the new cats in my car but after Dave had fitted his.

Apart from the fact that the fuel consumption is genuinely scary... I luv it :)

Jesus!

I actually prefer the first one.

If only they went and handled in a manner befitting of the sound.

Do you like it Jim?

I love looking at it, dont mind sitting in it, and love the sound of it. But going for a drive, I have to say I'm really not that big a fan.

Find a bump mid-corner when you are travelling rapidly and its a genuinely unrelaxing experience.

It would be the first car I'd get rid of from the fleet in all honestly.

And Fuel wise - the Ferrari is better and it has another 130bhp!

Genuinely, a resounding yes, although it probably isn't a conventional replacement for a Mini. :thumbsup

I remember driving my Porsche Turbo S about 200 miles home and knowing deep inside that getting it was a bad move and I was never really going to gel with it . Well, this was exactly the opposite.

Although the 0-60 time is given as 4.7s it really feels heavy and I knew it wasn't going to be rocketship fast so no disappointment there. It is still plenty rapid but will never see the track and at best will shuffle me along the local A and B roads with a bit of pomp and gusto :)

I love the looks and the sound.. especially now :blackeye and it is something that is understated enough that I can take to work or meetings without having to cringe a bit or aim for the far away corner of the carpark for appearing either too flash or too scruffy.

The biggest chunk of deprecation has gone, although the running costs make the Ferrari seem frugal, so I think this will probably hang around for a wee while without breaking the bank... as long as it doesn't break down or blow up

I seem to have ended up with four fairly impractical 2-seater cars, two 4x4s and only the little Fiat 500 making a stand for being sensible, practical and generally useful. Lucky that Wendy is fairly easy going I suppose :damnfunny

Congratulations. :thumbsup

I think these still look great. Can't make my mind up which exhaust note I prefer. The irony of shopping for AMs whilst dining in Tescos.
