What is interesting about these tests is not that the UK does relatively badly in them, but how few people the world over are able to answer all 6 questions correctly ... if you look at the data on the right hand side against each question you'll see that even the Shanghai only 31% were able to answer the level 6 questions. I think at age 15 (assuming that's the actual age these stats relate to) I would have expected most people to be able to answer these questions. I suspect if you presented them on an iPad with some animation people would have scored better

It really is a shocking state of affairs if only 31% of the cleverest nation can answer all 6 - doesnt bode well for future generations
Edit to add 6 out of 6 too and I was a renowmed thickie at maths and just scrapped an O-level grade c / pass.

Thought about one for a few seconds, the rest were just about immediate.
I would have expected those at about O level to answer questions like that more quickly than I could as it is their daily bread and butter. I presume that they had to be done mentally, no writing down?

6 / 6 ...I can't imagine anyone with sound reasoning not getting 6 / 6.
I was waiting for a challenging question, and one never appeared. The percentages make astonishing viewing!!

Admittedly, the revolving door was the one which required most thought, as it had the most potential to have a wee catch

Agree with the revolving door question. My first answer didn't have an option.
