You need to sneak in some proper fast food :-) A friend was in the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary recently ... I was horrified to see what counts as food there ... perhaps it was a bad day in the Kitchen, but I suspect not :-( We ended up taking her in food, otherwise she was likely to starve to death (the less picky would clearly just eat it anyway)!

Cheers,
Robin

TOTALLY Agree... I remember when i was in, Ed (I think!) came to visit me and he brought a McD's, Genuinely not a massive lover of fast food, but f*ck me, it was like someone had brought me a Gold bar... It was tepid at best, but it still throughout those horrible months sticks with me. People brought all sorts, but a McD's was by far the BEST gift!! Beware not to do it too often, my favourite sandwich at the time was a Pret BLT and i now cannot even look at them!!

Hamish, I wish Lachie all the best, it's a tough time but you'll see the fighter in him come out - the chemo is pretty horrific but hopefully tablets will be less intrusive than it being pumped through you.

Dave :thumbsup

thanks all
I know he reads this and takes comfort from your good wish's :cheers

I was in visiting today and after having had 2 relatively good nights sleeping 5-6 hours each they have swapped him onto a syringe pump for pain relief which they are trying to set the level for - unfortunatly when we were there he said he was at 8/10 so it could be an uncomfortable night unless the can get on top of his pain reliefor will top up the syringe pump with tablets ( the pump is ment to level pain relief ) removing the yo yo effect of waiting for tablets to kick in or them wearing off

once they can get his pain level back under control its all about the rehabilitation to get him home

cheers Hamish

Just an Up date on Lachie's condition

On Tue 28th Jan they Dr's were working towards Lachies rehablitation having got his pain very much under control using the syring pump and Social services were out at our Mum's house fitting the aids required for him to go home.

Fri 31st Jan Lachie had a full top to toe X-rays session to look and see if there had been any further damage,
he had a good weekend and was hoping to be out this week having been getting around the room and being taken on stairs by the hospital physio's using his zimmer, until the Orthopedic consultants saw the results from the X-rays and imediatly confined him to bed on Mon 3rd Feb having discovered lesions on other bones and predominantly his hips -

Today he has been told he now faces a double hip replacement once they have fully got his Myloma under control

Hang in there Bro :thumbsup

cheers Hamish

Good news that the Myloma is under control. My mother has had various joints replaced - painful but she has made a good recovery. Here's hoping for Lachie. :thumbsup

Thanks all
I was over visiting him this afternoon taking him in a food parcel (Bridie's/Scotch pie's from the Ceres Butcher- One of the best butchers I know btw and well worth the detour if your up that way) and a Chocolate Guinness cake I make thats a hit with everyone who's tried it ,

Lachie's good spirits all things considered MacMillian Cancer nurses/advisors are helping him and mum through the maze of paperwork

On of the consultants was in today and informed us that the hip operation likely to take place next week after his first course of chemo- which they need to take a short break from to do the hip operation and allow for a short healing period before restarting it after is so thay can perform controled surgery rather than have a much more severe break and trauma if his hip let go on its own.

As yet they don't know the full extent of the damage or which of the two options of joint replacment they will use (long going further down the thigh/leg bone or short just the ball and socket)

sorry I havent updated this for a wee while

Lachie got out of hospital a couple of weeks ago with the Consultants having decided to just pin the left leg and continue with the rehabilitation and calcium in the hope that the bones will restore there own strengh and if not they have the hip operation as a contingency plan , while he is home at Mums in Tillicoultry shes now 86 and herself got over Bowel cancer a year ago so knew's some of the in's and outs of the care organisations with MacMillian and Marie Curie Nurses having been a great help although a visit from the Occupational Therapist for Strath Carren last week told him not to expect to be back at work any time soon

Lachie is doing small jobs around the house - building himself a new mountain Bike although he is still prohibited from strenuious exersise until the chimotherapy is finished - as its a tablet form of chimo he has been lucky enough in retaining what hair he had

The girls and Guys at the Moss have been great and another sick collection (for sub contractors who only recieve Statutory Sick Pay ) has helped hime keep the wolfs from the door

I spoke to him this evening and all things considered he is remarkably positive he's also hoping to get to the evening track day on the 16th just to get out of the house although both feet are swollen as a side effect from the coctail of drugs he's on and is only able to wear slippers atm, he said he might ask Tut for some tips on going barefeet

thanks for Asking II'll pass on your regards and update the thread
cheers Hamish
