Update.......lately been noticing when all four at home using t'interweb (kids live streaming cr@p, wife and I general surfing) things have got rather glacial, like pictures not opening on my hotmail etc....

So, unplugged my booster in the kitchen and hey presto, superfast again!!!

Hey-ho, it was worth a try

Are you keeping it Ross?

I tried Luke's in the house and it worked fine and meant that Verian had a good signal in the kitchen, so still looking for one.

Homeplugs and two wifi access points works here. I agree that the homeplugs are of limited longevity, but they are the least frustrating solution.

Tut, I'll bring a couple up with me next time I'm up and we can make it work with your netgear router.

In the meanwhile you should ask BT how to configure your own ADSL router on their ADSL line (i.e. what's your DSL username and password).

Cheers,
Robin

Strange, I've not noticed any change in speed. We stream netflix most nights and surf net with no notable change in speed or issue. There is only the two of us so many an issue associated with more users.

Quite possibly not tut - but I want to do a few other tests before consigning it as useless to me, but if this proves to be the case, I can leave it with someone in abz for you to collect.

Your user name is anything@btbroadband.com
Password is not required but just put in 'password' if it insisting on one.
B.T broadband ones don't require specifics.
Let your router auto setup the rest unless you are doing the dns thing or something specific. :thumbsup

Am I right in saying sky don't let you use your own router and won't tell you what your username and password are?

Sort of.

They wont give you the username and password details required but you can get in through some website that generates it from the serial number or something.

I tried to manually set up a spare router for someone when the sky one failed. Even our direct line to higher level tech help wouldn't give me the info. The manager did say it was possible but they weren't allowed to give it out and directed me to portforwarding.com (I think - it was a while ago).

Iirc you can get the sky details from the backup text file of the router config.
