Nitron Help

Post by martins » Thu Feb 13, 2014 12:08 am

Have a set of Nitron 46 Race Pro Shocks fitted to the Exige S2. The ones with the helpers fitted. Originally sourced by Gareth for the car before spending some time on Kingers Exige.

Noted that there is a crack in one of the red Eibach springs (offside rear). Right at the base. There are the following numbers on the spring 295443 and 0600.225.0600.0.

http://www.elise-shop.com/nitron-46race ... 02191.html

Does anyone know what the rating of these springs are and where I can get some?
How difficult is it to fit the new springs?
Is it just a case of unwinding the locking nut and replacing with the new spring at the same setting?

All and any advive willingly accepted.

0600.225.0600.0

it's a 6 " spring, 2.25" diameter, 600Lb rate

and yes, just unwind the spring collar to get some slack, remove the end-cap (adjuster end), change spring.

that said, if your changing spring rate, then you need to re-set the platform according to the new spring rate/ride hight.

as a guide, tighten the spring collar so that you have the spring just in contact (so it can't rattle) then count the number of turns of pre-load required to get to the ride hight you want, make sure this is the same on the other side irrelevant of what ride height you measure side to side.

if you start with the same pre-load (in turns) as you currently have and you go down in spring rate, you will need more turns to get back to the same height.

once you have set all 4, the ride heights should be level (assume the ground under the car is flat), if it's not, then look for problems.

not seen one crack, do you have a picture of it?

Scuffers

Many many thanks.

Picture will come later. Crack is right at the base but it must still have some effect on the handling. Looks like it has been bust for some time. Probably did not like one of the numerous pot holes we have up here. Either that or last years trip into KH gravel trap.....no that is not right.....the cracked sping is the reason for the trip to the gravel trap (driver excuse no 17 I believe).

I will be sticking with the same rate.

I will of course change both the back springs, but should I also change the fronts as well?

Anyone in or around Aberdeen got a Nitron spanner thing for unwinding the Spring Collar?

I could buy one but I would much rather borrow one as I am a bit of a pikey at heart :D

I used a screwdriver and a vice to undo it instead of a spanner which worked very well. Nitron were very helpful and sold me new springs.

FFS Tut....

OK so I canna spell. Come to that I canne tpye ethier. Surprised one does not cancel out the other......leading to perfect Queens English.....

I have ordered up the new springs but they will take about a week to arrive. Now I have to strip down all of 4 corners, renew the rears and respray the fronts as they are a tad rusty. Suppose that is what comes of running a Lotus in the pi--ing rain in the winetr :D :D

Ignoring Tuts last helpful hint re my tpynig..... :D

Right. Have now taken all 4 corners off. Replacing both rear 600lb springs as one was totally busted. Stripped, cleaned and hammerited the front springs and helpers on all 4 corners. When taking off the rears noted that there was more pre load (apprx 3 turns) on the pax rear compared to the driver rear. However when I fitted the Nitrons, they had come off Kingers red exige and I did not check LR or RR, I just slapped them on. So now what to do? Kinger had the car geo done when the Nitrons were on it so they will most likely have set the suspension up then. My car is identical to Kingers. If set up for driver only will the extra pre load spring be the one on the Pax side? Or should I set up completely from scratch? if the later what is the general consensus re ride height??
