The post was asking whether a prestige marque like Porsche mass producing family boxes that are very common on the roads takes away some of the desire for their sports cars.
In short - will it dilute the brands desirability?
Not right now but if they continue down the 'anything we can sell' route they appear to be on.

Obviously it doesn't matter to you Jeremy, you've made that quite clear.

I drive a 911 every day.

In fact.... I'll say it again... I drive a 911 every day.

This fact is so awesome I had to say it twice. There are 1,000s of people who'd kill to do that but can't.

Therefore having a 911 makes me awesome. Fact.

Amusingly, the one colour I didn't want was silver but somehow ended up with one.

Bland?!? Hahahahaha... Yeah.. Ok.

Btw... I just remembered... I drive a 911.... Every day!!!! Woooohoooo.....

Brooooooom Brooooooom...

Sometimes. I do like a bit of pink.

But mostly just wear the Rolex on my way to working at the Bank where I sign incredibly important documents with a Montblanc pen and light my cigars with taxpayers' money (when I'm not taking pics of boats)

I have nothing constructive to add but felt compelled to log on and tell you this...

My mate took delivery of a black 14 plate cayman s today and it is f****g awesome !

Looks amazing, oozes class and quality, and sounds - unbelievable !

Also relatively affordable.......very very jealous.

If I didn't have 12 points with a ban looming and a wife expecting kids soon, Id be in one.

Nice one.
I watched the Chris Harris video about the Alpha 4C today, made a great advert for the Cayman.

Strangely, when I was test driving 911's at Porsche Glasgow the salesman kept telling me the Cayman was a better drive.

Should go try one but I can't see past the plastic fantastic Evora at the moment.

Im so impressed with the cayman, can't stop thinking about it today. I expected it to be nice but its just totally awesome. The new shape with the higher rear fenders is a massive improvement, almost looks a bit f360 like at angles. I was NOT expecting it to sound that good either.

Easily my first choice at that price range.

Ive already promised myself something special when my points clear in 2 years :( This is going to be tough.

I seem to remember you were attracting the wrong attention when you had the Exige Jamie.
Still got the Z4 or have you got rid of it pending any ban?

I always thought the Caymen was a better than the 911 (the engines in the right place for a start)

lol yeah..na had sensible x6 for a while...

totting up ban yes - mobile phone the main cause ..daft I know, no excuses. Real killer was it all happened within 3 months and was only a few months after I had cleared previous 9 points ( most of which accumulated during exige ownership ) , guess Ill never learn...but maybe a ban effecting my business and in turn livelihood is the kick up the ar*se I need!

Was hoping to play exceptional hardship with my business and staff suffering but research shows that might not work. Got few months before court :(

Not necessarily. It may simply slow down or halt depreciation. At which point the smart money moves in, enjoys a car that otherwise could not have been afforded / justified [delete as appropriate], then moves back out again relatively painlessly.

That would work for you I guess? :-)

In short Porsche is morphing into the new Audi. If they produce cars the general population want people will buy them and if that is profitable that is what they will do.

Had a thing for 911's a few years ago and spent many an hour reading 911uk forum posts and doing research. Bore scoring and expensive rebuilds put me off along with DDTB driving one. :D Cayman is probably a better car but does not do it for me . Brilliant cars but I see them everywhere. Have not driven one.

Then had a thing for R8's and spent many hours reading R8talk forum posts and scary stories.

I have ordered an Evora, reasons for buying it. 1. Handling is good 2.Its a rare car 3. You have to dislocate your hip to get in 4. A Lotus is like herpes and once under you skin you know it will flare up now and again. 5. Finance was good. 6. Its not a Porsche.

Thread drift further, why are Land Rover defenders so expensive. Exclusive ?

Exige Sport 350 (Sold)
Elise Cup 250 (Air con and radio tubby spec) (Sold)
Evora S (sold)
