S1 Elise Suspension
Re: S1 Elise Suspension
Why are they better at it, and how long will they actually last?
[and to be clear...I am not baiting here, I am genuinely interested as an existing S2 Bilstein user in S1 application ]

I could quote metrics, but Thats meaningless, just have to try them to appreciate how they are better.campbell wrote:Why are they better at it, and how long will they actually last?

Don't get me wrong, billy's are great when new, especially when you consider how cheaply made they are, the big problem is they just don't last, 2 years typical use and they are well off their new performance, and often failed.
As for zeros, in 3 years, none back yet (and they are rebuildable)
Realistically, they should last 5+ years.
Re: S1 Elise Suspension
Thought provoking, for sure.
I have had Bilsteins since 2007. Perhaps put 30k miles on them. One front failed maybe halfway through that period. The replacement (Pre-owned) pair have been fine. The rears were only just changed last summer (2700 miles ago...must get out more...)
Been very impressed with ride and handling including the odd track day I get to indulge in. The late Lawrence Hoy always spoke highly of Bilstein, this played a big part in my decision initially but it's been thoroughly borne out by experience. I had Spax prior, and std Konis before them.
Interested to hear from any Quantum users for further feedback.

Where can you get Bilsteins refurbished? Also any indication of the cost? I've got a spare set in my garage which need refurbished, then I'll refresh what is on my S2.

Bilstein themselves. Not too pricey, I have costs and contact details at work, will post up tomorrow.Scottish Scrutineer wrote:Where can you get Bilsteins refurbished? Also any indication of the cost? I've got a spare set in my garage which need refurbished, then I'll refresh what is on my S2.
