Aye, the in-car footage of Vettel's last dash after passing Raikonnen's off was a pleasure :thumbsup

Great to see the drivers fighting the cars again. Look forward to seeing the same(-ish) in the dry. I like their sound, but too quiet on TV versus the commentators' voices.

Really looking forward to seeing how Magnusson progresses this season 8)

Ominous sign that Ricciardo's car looked painted to the track (compared to Hamilton) for that 2nd slot on the wrong tyres. Hope it's not another Red Bull dull-fest when Renault fully sort their power....

Nice onboard (mostly commentary-free) for Hamilton's pole lap.

I enjoyed that. Looks like the stage is set for an entertaining season, with quite a few teams in the mix to be serious contenders... as long a Mercedes do not run away with it.

I actually quite like the new engine sound and volume. It's good to hear other sounds going on, although a TV production adjustment of commentary volume Vs car volume would be good (in favour of the cars).

The only finishing Merc 25 seconds in the lead at the end was ominous - especially as they clearly weren't exploring the limits of the envelope for that car, given the way the race panned out. Otherwise, not action-packed, but very interesting in the midfield - with some potential for epic battles later on.

Similarly, I liked the engines - okay, I'm sure for some people, not being physically assaulted by the noise trackside is a loss, but for the TV viewer (when they sort levels out, as you say Dom) it makes for more interest and information through the audio - rather than the shrill, gutless V8s.

Should add, some turn around in fortunes / performance for Williams  Good to see that they have what looks to be a decent car.

I like the potential for some changes in fortune, but I worry that the fuel saving might still ruin the racing. The fact that there were a couple of laps lost at the start and the safety car meant the teams were givin the drivers the nod to go for it. In a flag to flag race it might be different.

Bit of a bum deal for Ricciardo.

Here's quite a good comparison of the difference in the engine sounds 2013-14. I know which I prefer.
The two things I vividly remember from the first GP I went too, was firstly the sound and secondly the shear speed of the cars. I'm sure by next season they will be louder.

realistically, at no point did any of them 'go for it' as such, G3 was the best call heard, G1 would be 'going for it' engine power wise, the rest is fuel management.

As you said, they lose a lap at the start and several more with the SC, nobody was going to push the boat out on race 1, Rosburg was no where near 'on it' all race after the first half lap.

Nice to see Williams have an engine at last...

Also nice to see the effects of loosing a chunk of aero and having tyres that don't fall apart at the first sign of work, seeing the cars move about was great, the real fear I have is once the engines settle down, there will be bugger all in it again.

For all we know, plenty of them could have been G1 - I doubt we get to hear all the team radio :thumbsup
