New Family Car - what to buy?
Re: New Family Car - what to buy?
"I also spotted a Golf R for £219+VAT which could be quite interesting." - Seems like an amazing deal Jeremy, where did you see this?

There's a leasing deals thread on PH and a few folk were looking closely
At the golfR deals; one guy got one with options for 290ish a month all in.

Had a wee nose round the Golf R yesterday, in that 'R' blue, and it was a lovely piece of kit.
Easy to get to £35k even with sensible options, so these deals sound impressive...

Hi Gredo, greido wrote:"I also spotted a Golf R for £219+VAT which could be quite interesting." - Seems like an amazing deal Jeremy, where did you see this?
This was seen on contracthireandleasing.com lots of establishments here offering similar terms with slight variations for mileage, 3 or 5dr, manual or dsg.
I am guessing this will be the 'old' shape Golf mark 6 but for that price who cares.

Depends on the deposit, mileage allowance and arrangement fees. I have seen quite a few cracking headline monthly figures, but hefty deposits & arrangement fees soon put things into perspective.greido wrote:"I also spotted a Golf R for £219+VAT which could be quite interesting." - Seems like an amazing deal Jeremy, where did you see this?
Just for reference, I have a pal who runs a leasing & finance company and has put together some cracking deals for a few of my clients. If anyone is looking at leasing, he is worth a shout, even if just for a quote.

Re: New Family Car - what to buy?
So, after a lot of test drives & sitting in cars!
Was very tempted by some of the personal leasing deals, especially on the Golf GTD and the Civic 1.4D.
However both cars failed the 3 kids in the back test for the journey to & from school. With the raised centre tunnel and large central storage bin the middle seat was simply too cramped for the ~30 minute commute.
Same issues with the BMW 1-series and Audi A3 although I'd never really considered them.
Finally found ourselves back at Toyota and got a very good deal on a pre-reg Auris. The part-ex was very competitive and it was £5k off list price for a Sept'13 car with 100 miles on the clock! The 1.33 l engine is spritely enough for journeys into town, it drives very nicely and it's well equipped with optional sat-nav. The only thing lacking from the wife's list of requirements is keyless entry........ It also has a flat floor in the rear so 3 kids can sit comfortably without kicking each other!
The Impreza was due an expensive service and needed attention to the brakes & exhaust to pass the next MOT. With the money saved on petrol, servicing & road tax, my man maths has the cost of paying for & running the new car as slightly cheaper than maintaining the old one, time will tell I guess!
Cheers, Mark
