Re: Blue S2, Mallaig and Crieff
That would've been me then, trying to keep a low profile.Left with the roof on as was planning to bag it at the first "comfort break".....all you over 50's will know what I mean
.....which I thought would be Green Welly at latest....low & behold didn't stop until just before Glenfinnan.Had all my food & drink with me so stopped just past the railway bridge where the road runs beside the sea, great spot, had the car in sight so could leave it topless with all my junk on the passenger seat.Had to go to Mallaig as that was my original plan but didn't bother stopping as thought I'd take the long way home via Oban.Well that didn't happen as got seriously delayed in Fort Bill.....bank holiday weekend and some eejit thought it'd be a good idea to put temp traffic lights on the main route thru' town.....don't even know what the hell they were doing,or trying to do.Change of plan, took the loop round by Kinlochleven....highly recommended,no traffic and great road surface.....haven't been round there since I gave up biking.Had to top up the tank at Green Welly so thought I'd have fish & chips there...so so but I was hungry and top went back on there for the last 60 miles to home
Just short of 300 miles and a good way to spend a bank holiday....was working over the weekend so guilt free
Actually 1st decent journey I've done and starting to get a wee feel for the car at last.....it's limits far exceed mine so should be a huge safety margin
What car were you in today to spot me in Mallaig, only Lotus I remember seeing was a light metallic blue S2 around Onich heading north.

I was in a new shape X5 , saw you in the lay-by past the viaduct near Arisaig, then again between Crieff and Comrie, when I came up behind you and followed you into Crieff. I think you were chasing a couple of hairdressers cars at the time!!
Roof was on both times I saw you...............
Traffic in Fort Bill was a rear PITA!

Roads were pretty quiet heading away from home, think I recall seeing an X5 passing whilst I was lounging by the seaside....grey or a variation of??
Traffic a lot heavier on return, was hoping all the long-weekenders would've been home by then.....think the MX5 owners club were out on a jolly,I saw them pass when I stopped for food at Tyndrum but they'd thinned down to 2 by Crieff.....wasn't chasing them,no opportunity to get ahead so happy to sit back and enjoy the day.
Had the roof off long enough to work on the tan....got a wee bit frazzled but didn't realise till I got home...roll on the summer

Green Welly is crap, stop at the smaller one on the left just before, less busy and good food, especially the half roast chicken.

Yeah, been in there loads of times, done some work for the owner...GLH or at least it was, heard they were struggling with the tough times.Didn't fancy sitting in a hotel by myself and my original plan was fish & chips in Mallaig which I ditched when I got there but thought I'd give the old little chef another go.....changed since it re-opened privately and now quite expensive for what it is,fish was a bit greasy but at least cooked to order.
Cullen Skink is good from Green Welly shop but whole place is expensive, rarely stopped there when I was biking,it was Onich for fuel and Glenfinnan house hotel for food.
No pelters for not having the roof off all day????.....you're all being very kind to me
