Noisy Gearbox on Exige V6?

Post by Simon82 » Thu Jul 03, 2014 10:28 pm

Went to take the car for a run tonight after being tucked away for a couple of weeks and when I started it there was a lot of noise coming from the gearbox, sounds like input shaft bearing or release bearing to me but not sure. Anyone else had issues with this? Bit cheesed as car just turned 2k miles....hope its not a sign of things to come! Will see what Craig at Murrays has to say about it but just wondering if its a common thing on them?

Can't say I've noticed anything but I have been told in the past I have zero mechanical sympathy so might be immune to such things . You should remember your car will have had a very hard life with its previous owner

I've heard of noisy release bearings on the Evora.

http://wiki.seloc.org/a/Known_Issues_-_ ... sion_Noise

Transmission Noise
Some Evoras are reported as having higher than expected transmission noise at low speed in the lower gears, characterised by the sound of 'a rotating component binding on a metal casing'. Some owners have managed to get Lotus to address the issue under warranty, and others report that the noise is down to poor quality throwout bearings in the clutch.

It's seems I'm just lucky! Waiting to hear back from Murrays, will get it booked in and see what's what.

My evora makes a noise at low revs in 1st...been doing it since I got it:-( was told it's normal and because of the adaptor plate that mates the gearbox to the engine. I might be talking rubbish..but it's what I remember

Was at Murray's today, Craig had a look at it for me and reckons it's nothing to worry about however car going in for a few bits in a week or so and he's gonna run it passed A factory technician just to be sure.
Good excuse to get sports exhaust for it, drown out the other noises!

Did Craig tell you it was a "characteristic". That's what he calls all strange noises and rattles from a Lotus :thumbsup

My Evora had a noisy gearbox as well especially at low revs. Just drive it harder, what's the worst that can happen :D

My Evora has a noisy box in first. Don't even notice it now tbh.
