S2 centre console

Post by jammacdo » Tue Aug 19, 2014 2:43 pm

Guys

I ordered a leather cover for my 2002 S2 Elise but its now arrived and is way too big (fat) for my centre console. Its supposed to be glued onto it but it'll need more than that to look like it fits.

Do the later (03 perhaps?) S2s have wider centre consoles? Or perhaps this cover isn't all its cracked up to be. Pretty disappointing given that I called them up and they told me it would be fine.

Cheers

James

Think the design changed with the Toyota powered cars and the changes required for the gear change.

Possibly you have a cover for a Toyota engined Elise, 2005 onwards ?
Obvious visual difference is the Toyota console has a wider squarer profile along the edge where the handbrake is so check out a few pics of them.

Edited woody bet me to the answer.

So is the S1 the same as the early K series S2? Their picture is rubbish so I cant tell.

If you get a new centre consul I may be interested in your old one if it's not marked.

Its scratched with deep marks as I had to sand off the black bumper paint that I had applied. Its a long story, hence the leather cover :) Live and learn and all that :)

Ok so dont want to be annoying here but check this out.

This looks like my centre console (apart from the fact mine is crappy plastic). But it looks like I need the "S1/K series S2" centre console and that they are the same. Anyone else think thats total rubbish or indeed correct? :D

That looks like mine - where are you based. I've a 03 K with a centre console that i bet is in worse condition than yours but you are welcome to come and look.

An S1 may fit as regards screw holes, but the top surround around the gear lever is different, flatter with a larger diameter hole.

Thanks for the offer Pete

I just need to know which one to order for the leather cover that you are supposed to glue on over the plastic. This will cover up my rather badly sanded down one I have. The only alternative to get something decent is to buy another standard one or uber expensive carbon one. So thought the leather cover would be ideal if I could just get the right one that fits properly.

Thanks Tut, now I'm confused. Will speak to the suppliers of the so called S2 centre console leather trim kit.

Mine is just painted - I bought some plastic paint to respray mine but couldn't work out how to get it off as I have the attention span of a squirrel.

But it would look OK if I ever get round to it...

OK.... S2 Toyota has a different console, S1 console is in 2 parts so different from the early Rover S2 console. The early S2 Rover engined console will fit an S1so you'd think vice cersa would work, I had as early S2 console in my old Grey S1 painted to match the body... So I would say you have an S2 Toyota cover there, You should be able to get yours trimmed by an upholsterer, try the likes of transcal in Livingston or Bailey's car trimmers out west (they're on Facebook)? Or I believe Lotus themselves might be able to help?

If your struggling a coat of paint will freshen things up a bit, just look at a club racer interior, that has a painted console and looks great
