SIDC trackday prep

Post by istoo » Wed Aug 13, 2014 5:59 pm

in preparation for first track time in the elise on forthcoming SIDC day.

With good tyres, fluid and pads i could run the M3 for hour long stints.

Considering a set of ZZRs anyway as the bridgestone rears are nearly done, or do i kill them on track?
Flushing the fluid for some good hi temp fluid, use a mobil one before for the M3 which was great.
Now to brake pads... currently got brembos in there at the moment. Which are OK, but i have no idea how they will fair at temperature for prolonged periods... I have run 'Friction Z' pads in the M3 which for the money are superb. What are the pads of choice for the elise? I have a standard S2 111S at the moment.

Pagid RS42s or CL5s are the two popular choices for track work.

Assuming their legal, I would keep the bridgestones on. Sure they might fade but if your making them fade then you can justify a new set of ZZRs! :-)

PagidRS42s ordered :)

Tyres are still legal a few mm left, experienced road tyres on a few previous cars on track. M3 would put P zeros off in about 8 laps. Melted a set of falkens. Ran Federal RSRs for 2 years on road and track, were excellent on the fat RWD car. offside tyres take a punning on the heavy car, assume the wear will be less on the lotus, i just have no idea how much less...

But i know to come prepared :)

traditionally i have bought spare wheels and track tyres and change in the pits beforehand, but elise doesn't allow for that so looking for a summer road/track tyre. ZZR keeps coming up as thee choice. Not that i need an excuse!

Two negatives make a positive but only in Scotland do two positives make a negative - 'Aye right.'

I am not quick. However my old standard S2 111s on standard Bridgestones and green stuff pads could stay out all day. (OK if it was really hot the tyres go a bit melty).

Good to have something in your back pocket to blame if someone overtakes you anyway...
