Newbie in Perth

Post by IanRB » Wed Aug 27, 2014 10:24 am

Hi there,

Well just outside Perth to be more exact. And only new here, not to the world of the Elise, having owned the same S1 for about 15 years.

And now a request for help. Does anyone know of a good mechanic around the Perth/Dundee area who can be trusted to work on an Elise? I know where the dealers are, but with a car of this vintage I'm happier dealing with a good independent.

Many thanks,

Ian.

Welcome along Ian.

There are some guys like Falkland Performance that aren't a million miles away, but I'd take a look at the testimonials forum to get a gauge of what Murrays in Edinburgh are about these days. It's safe to say that there's a good percentage of the membership, even those with very non-mint S1s, or Honda converted cars, etc, would not go anywhere else. Have a chat with Craig there and see what you feel - if you had experience of them in the bad old days, you won't recognise them.

Murrays look after my s1 very well. With the Scottish Elises discount, their prices are very reasonable, and they are happy for you to supply / source your own parts. :thumbsup

My S1 is scabbier than a toddlers knees but there's only man and garage I'd trust to service it; Craig at Murrays.

On another plus note for Murrays they are happy to do the work for you or only what you want and give you a list of things to do yourself between services. A great approach.

Your S1 must be about the same age as mine . . . ;-)

Also near Perth . . . well just south of . . . and just about to put my car back on the road after a few years hiatus . . . although with 100K on the clock it needed a rest . . .

Ian,

I've had my S1 from new in July 1999. You, Ferg and me are in competition I think :-)

Murray Lotus have been my service centre of choice for about 10 of my 15 yrs of ownership, with the gap in the middle down to a problem with standards and pricing before Craig Moncrieff took charge of the service team. Wouldn't consider anywhere else at present. Their work and also consultancy keep my 106k mile S1 road and track worthy without need for a 2nd mortgage. They are one of two significant reasons that I still have the car.

Welcome.
