Replacement Exhaust

Ok so YET ANOTHER daft question. Sorry.

The rusty original exhaust is off the car and I cant make myself put it back on the car. It has weedy little pipes and they are all rusty and dirty. Nah, just cant make myself do it.

I saw the EliseParts one, it looks promising, their specs suggest its good in many many wonderful ways, stuff about wadding and tig welding, sounds a very exhuastive list
But perhaps there are other options. I'm keeping the standard cat (for MOT plain sailing) and just about to replace the flexi down-pipe with one that only has a hole at each end and not in the middle.

Note: It needs to have twin oval exhaust pipes (that actually both work) I must have the twin smoke effect on cold startup in the mornings.

Also Note: It cant be stupid loud, I'm too old for that.

The EliseParts one is OK - I think that's what's on my car, though it's been a while since it was fitted so I may have gotten that wrong Make sure you replace all the rubber mounts at the same time, because it's a pain in the butt to do later.

Eliseparts one does have the rep for being pretty loud, but they are well made.

I think a lot of people go for 2Bular (Jim Valentine) who makes the exhausts in-house in Aberdeenshire. There's a range, so you can decide how loud you want to go. Not sure what his S2 options with oval pipes are - but I think he has a website if you Google 2Bular.

Word of warning - I believe by reputation he can be slow to respond to email as he's mega busy, so a phone call is usually a better bet if you have a query, not just a straight "I'll have that one" order.

On my S1, I had a Janspeed when I got it, which fell apart after a few years and was always pretty offensive. I then had a no-name ex-hillclimber's special that made a good noise, but kept under noise limits and didn't strangle power. However, it had a pea-shooter out the back of it (for noise reasons) If I was doing it again, I'd phone Jim and discuss what I was after.

Sure the pipes were stainless, but the box rotted like it wasn't. No matter, it's not a great design for power and I don't know of anyone that's bought one new, it's either been an upgrade with the car (I think that's what the original "Sports Exhaust" option was from Lotus) or they've got it much cheapness second hand. If someone was buying a new exhaust, it would not be the first I'd suggest. Anyway - this sounds like an S2 query, so it's largely academic

I have a janspeed something or other on mine but I also have a 4-2-1 manifold and a hurricane, my neighbours hate it as it's very loud.

Got an email from EliseParts today saying that if I buy one and I'm not happy with it they would refund me. Cant say fairer than that.

But watching some of the YouTube vids the Larini (not the club sport one) sounds nice and raspy. Don't know what the EliseParts one sounds like but it looks well made and can be refilled if I ever needed to do that. Mmmmmmm. decisions decisions.

I have the EP one and have found it excellent so far. I opted for the larger silencer to avoid any noise issues as I'd like to go 421 at some point.
