It has all been said, it is now just going around in circles.

I'm with you on that Tut.
Wish it was over with, fed up listening to the arguments, as you say they're all just going round in circles now.

Stroll on next Friday, whatever the result is I'll be glad it's over.

I can't see a situation where small businesses (especially those dependent on trade nationally within the UK, never mind internationally) won't get screwed in some way or another. In my line of work, you just have to look at the situation with couriers - delivery to N Ireland is under the same rates as the rest of the UK, the minute you send something a mile over the border, it's immediately an international rate. Clearly, there are currency reasons in that example, but it's just a small indicator of the death by a thousand cuts which will affect our country's trade relations.

I'm still not buying the conflicting reasoning WRT Sterling or Euro in an Indy Scotland - the EU won't let us sign up as a new member without taking on the Euro and if we keep Sterling, we're effectively importing a currency and allowing the BoE control - what the Yes campaign is trying to wrestle from England in the first place...

I can only hope that the swing to Yes that was reported and he subsequent situations with markets reacting/mortgage lender worries has had the good fortune to get the vote to swing back to No by the time of the election.

Very well said!

There is evidence that demographics will play a significant part in the decision, and as humans are fundamentally short-sighted, issues such as the welfare state, NHS spending, public services are the priorities for many in a certain demographic group. The SNP / Yes campaign have very successfully manipulated the debate to focus what is major constituional change,an irreversible decision, and strong possiblity of significant economic turmoil, into one based on relatively short-term issues that affect us now, and are of our time.. We'll sacrifice long-term security and stability, for the short-term pleasure and relief in avoiding the difficult decisions that have to be made, and ignorance of the real problems that affect us.

I find it sadly ironic that people who are worried about welfare spending, the NHS, and public services are more inclined to vote on the path that is likely to damage these things even more in Scotland, due to the false promises of a political party that's willing to sacrifice so much to achieve their singular aim in life.. It just shows the power a political vision can have on people, even if it is most likely just a mirage..

Well said! I think you are absolutely right -

very good to see the considered and informed opinion on here, and sad to see so little in the debate generally!

Interesting that "our" original poll stands at 62% for NO and 24% for YES.

At the outset I would have expected a national split of about 60/40 for NO and wouldn't have even been too surprised if the YES vote was in the mid-high 30%.

Seems like it is too close to call at present and it is fair to say that the momentum does tangibly seem to be with the YES side.

I am guessing the bloke who went to Ladbrokes a few weeks ago and put £1M on NO at at 1/5 on the basis that it was easy money might be having few twitchy moments

With kingk here, good points. Much better than many, I still not have seen anything telling me why it's a good idea.
Looking forward to it being over. Like Christmas.

I shall look at the bookie odds on Thursday morning.

If they are still 1/2 for a No, and 2/1 for a Yes then that will be that. Any closer it could go either way.

The debate is better mannered on here but the reason y'all like it so much is that you're all preaching to each other! If the split was 50/50 here you'd find it a lot less acceptable...

Then you all tell each other how clever you all are for having the same opinion, then how stupid those who hold a different opinion are.

Then the three remaining right thinkers amongst us come on and patiently explain to you where you have become confused in your thinking and we are resolutely poo-poo'd, or poo-poo'd by proxy* (which might be my favourite phrase of the day).

Well that's how I see it anyway.
Or not.

I have read some excellent material through some of these links posted on here, well written, balanced, thought provoking, providing a different slant on things that you find in the usual media outlets/pub debates.

If you have any similar 'yes' biased articles then please post them up as I'm equally as keen to read these.
