The whole tone of that piece is deeply devisive and basically says that you're only a true Scot if you voted Yes! Only true Scots were trying to gain independence for their currently and "their failure" may be their finest hour.

Its an arrival that's full of emotion and anti-establishment feeling and very short on facts. Very much like the whole Yes campaign in my experience.

One thing I've wondered but never found an answer to is... Are there borders in the North Sea which dictate which country owns any oil/gas found in specific areas?

Does anyone in Scotland worry about the possibility of invasion to plunder its oil/gas reserves should independence be acheived? Its happened plenty in the Middle East!

It was.

That's some size of chip on Welsh's shoulder.

I quite like his novels though.

Salmond revealing his true colours. Disgusting behaviour from a despicable man.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/ ... icked.html

The only people tricked were those who believed him when he said we all had to accept the result of the referendum, come together and move forward.

I wonder how much inward investment in Scotland is going to be deterred when people read comments like this.

Very clever. And tantamount to inciting violence.

I love the plug for the book too.

It remains to be seen whether any new powers are delivered in anything like the promised timetable. Thus it is too early to say whether or not any last-minute no voters were or were not tricked.

He's obviously pretty bitter. I also don't think the article in the telegraph was an interview with Mr Salmond but rather a precis of other interviews he has given. So he may be being quoted a little out of context (The Telegraph is quite likely the sort of paper that would love to portray him in the worst possible light).

I also wonder whether he resigned to avoid presiding over the next budget ... I think Scotland has deferred austerity measures, but those chickens will soon come home to roost, unless we deploy some Scottish tax raising powers!

Anyway, fingers crossed when he's had some time to think about it he will come to the conclusion that the democratic route is what it is, and if he's right, the next one will be a Yes vote. 20 years is not such a long time in the end.

Cheers,
Robin

i feel ashamed in Scotland.
We had a vote, there was a clear winning choice.
People will not move on. the "We are the 45", Salmond not going to the service thats meant to bring people together, other commentators giving "bad day for Scotland with non-Scots bottling it" etc.
Not one SNP leader has come out and said - STOP, accept it, move on. At least none that ive heard.

Shameful.

One die-hard SNP friend said before this "now the people of Scotland will get to choose if they want to be in a union".
i.e. not sold out by lairds or that, people choosing.

People chose.

Yet they wont accept it.

Move on ffs

"We are the 45". Interesting. There was a '45 Rebellion deep in Scots history. James and I drove right past the monument to it at Glenfinnan this weekend.

Gives us plenty time to prepare. And gives the Yes 2035 campaign plenty time to put some facts together this time - call it a "business case", if you will.

This is all assuming Islamic State haven't gotten us first.

The No side fought a bloody awful campaign and only got a hurry on in the latter weeks and they still won. The yes campaign had everything in their favour and fought a clever albeit sometimes dirty campaign and lost by a big enough margin to make it clear Scotland doesn't want independence.

Would it have been 45 if the goal posts hadn't been moved? If Cameron and Co hadn't done that I think people would have been more accepting of the result

Was very disappointed to hear that Scottish based soldiers who were serving abroad were not eligible to vote.
