S2 Toe Links
Re: S2 Toe Links
What happened when the second one broke?
Re: S2 Toe Links
I had been thrashing around anglesey for half a day, until robins exhaust broke and we headed to halfords to try and get a repair kit. I was driving along a residential street at 30mph and the bolt snapped under no load whatsoever.
Elise-shop said that we (robin and i) fitted it incorrectly and denied anything was wrong with the kit. I was never entirely happy with that answer but couldn't prove otherwise.

Re: S2 Toe Links
Hi,
The captive bolt that is part of the ball joint won't break if reasonably new; they break simply due to corrosion, not because they aren't strong enough. I don't think the ball joint part is very expensive, and were it me, I would simply replace them now and then think about it taking another look at them in 2-3 years or, if you take up endurance racing, after each race
You are right that the top bolts are the ones that go through the camber shims and yes the 10.9 is the one to use - actually can be quite challenging to get to the full tightening torque given the cap-head design and the space available for getting at it.
Cheers,
Robin

They look a tad long woody.

Re: S2 Toe Links
Thanks Robin, The ballpoints are only £40 ish each so yes would make sense to renew them, just wanted to make sure they would be fit for purpose.robin wrote:Hi,

Re: S2 Toe Links
I was down at MMC yesterday for a service and guess what , my toe links are seized.
Bit of a bummer cause it means another trip down and day off work.

Re: S2 Toe Links
As I said Craig told me that mine were seized and to put them on my to do list. They broke a lot quicker than I expected so be wary.

Re: S2 Toe Links

Re: S2 Toe Links
I'm concluding the std parts are fine.

Re: S2 Toe Links
Anyone know where you can pick up the hub carrier bolts on line as I am no where near Murrays really.

Re: S2 Toe Links
elise parts or elise shop. I think they are just standard cap bolts though, so if you have the size you could just pick them up from an on line or local ironmonger. Make sure you get the right spec though

Took a picture of mine today and they look pretty second hand, need to get the mole grips on the bar and see if they are sized but they certainly look it!

Re: S2 Toe Links
Don't need mole grips - they should rotate with hand pressure. Get on your knees, grab the bar and try to twist it - shouldn't rattle, but should twist a little on the balljoints smoothly and relatively easily.Mellow Yellow wrote:Took a picture of mine today and they look pretty second hand, need to get the mole grips on the bar and see if they are sized but they certainly look it!
