As far as I'm aware there is only one authorised Corvette dealer in the UK which is Bauer Millett Sales in Manchester. Assuming you want to buy one with a 3 year warranty but it will cost more than importing myself.

I'm assuming by importing directly from the states yourself would mean that you get no warranty on the car over here? Dealers that import provide 2 years with themselves as far as I'm aware.

What about a private warranty, would that along with self importing work out most cost effective??

Not sure Mark. I'd have to calculate it all up, but again something I'll look into.

On another note I found this video of valet mode on the cars, pretty decent but surprised it doesn't also reduce the power of the car too.

GM - 8 Speed 8L90 automatic transmission

Post by SAJ » Fri Aug 22, 2014 7:18 am

Thoughts this might be of interest to the engineers among us, it's GM's new 8 speed auto which looks quite impressive to me. I've always been one for manuals but given if I opt for a Stingray or Z06 I'm thinking of going down the auto route especially as the Mrs can't change gears properly to save herself

As fast as a PDK on downshifts and quicker on upshifts, I'm taking that as impressive given it is just an automatic gear box rather than dual clutch.

In standard D mode on the track, seems pretty decent for an automatic.

Interesting graph, although I suspect these times reflect the shift times in automatic mode where the PDK would still trump the conventional auto in manual mode.

The bars on the far right of the graph are TAP mode which is manual using the paddles. Interesting thing is they don't show downshift times in TAP mode.

Just got thinking after looking at BA wanting to charge my £5k each way to fly to Vegas (in the comfy section) for the CES show at the start of Jan 2015.

Now thinking about flying elsewhere in the US, buying an American car, using it for the week I'm there and shipping it back.

Sounded like a great way to make the week more fun!

How did you get on investigating this?

You'll get seriously stung for import duty and vat unless you've owned it for 6 months. Details here -http://www.import-car.info/

I haven't looked too much further into it just yet. I'm waiting to find out how much the car will be here when it is imported in as a UK spec car which is expected to be spring 2015. So once I find that out I'll see what I'm going to do.

I still need to test drive a Stingray (hopefully soon) to see if I even like the feel of the car.

I suspect it will feel agricultural compared to the Evora, my guess would be brutal acceleration and speed but let down by steering response and delicacy of control , I hope I'm wrong but any Lotus is a hard act to follow and American muscle isn't renowned for honed response even though they have come on a lot in recent years.

I would love a Mustang (the older the better) but fear driving one, even a new one will spoil the dream forever :?
If your experience is good I might dare to seek out a test drive!
