I had my Exige done my Hangar 111 - you just remove the ecu, send it off and they reflash it and send it back. It made a very noticeable improvement - not massive but certainly worth doing.

I spoke to Hanger 111 there.
Just the cam change to 5750 rpm is £160 + vat (& postage)
or
they do a GT spec
recommended if you have an induction and exhaust.
takes it to just over 200bhp
cost is £322 + vat (& postage)
i'll probably go with the 2nd option - & do it over the winter

Sounds interesting Mr Kyle!
With 200+ it should be interesting to see what the change in delivery is like! (esp as the supercharger (£4k) only gets you to 220bhp, with then doesnt perform at that level with the heat soak I believe.

The prices are a real con by Lotus, and indeed the rest of the others for what amounts to plugging in a laptop to the UBD2 port and uploading a map. This is the same map for each model of the range regardless of what other upgrades to exhaust, air filter, etc that have been fitted.
It is a different case from where the MAP is individually programmed for the car itself, as in the case of Dave Walker, Scuffers, etc, hundreds or thousands of hours have been spent on the RR at a lot of expense to get them accurate, and the development costs have to be incorporated in the price.

3 or 4 hundred quid for a remap is pretty standard from any of the large tuning outfits such as Superchips. You could easily pay over a grand for a remap from DMS. If you judge the cost purely on the time it tales to install a new map from a laptop they are never going to sound attractive, but in terms of performance improvement per pound spent they make a lot of sense. Plenty of people spend more on a sports exhaust which adds noise but little else.

They only get that price because people are prepared to pay it Mark. Put your your 2010 BMW M3 in and you will get the same map from that Company as every other car, if they are good they will fine tune it, but it will not go on a RR.
I had the Audi TT mapped from 225 to 275hp eight years ago for £95, and the map has been perfect as was proven on Track.

So the time a company puts in to developing a map that, lets be honest, will usually have a pretty limited market, counts for nothing?

Good point Woody and one I was going to mention. You are not only paying for the 15 mins it takes to change a map but also the cost of having the software to do it; but the biggest unseen cost is the training and knowledge you are paying for which you pay for when employing any expert. Steve if you think of the man hours it has taken you to learn EFi tuning then cost that into an hourly rate for your self mapping on the Audi it would add to a lot I'd imagine.

When I did the evo ECU remapping I spent numerous hours learning what to do as well as tweaking the maps etc, ended up with 40 odd maps in total so hopefully with someone knowledgeable they miss out that phase but you pay for it. £160 for the cam change map seemed reasonable to me.

I have done enough mapping with Craig on our Honda's to know what is involved in changing the VTEC to a lower setting. I have also been running Emeralds and K-Pros for 15 years, so do know a little about the subject from mapping them myself, to taking them down to Ricki, Dave Walker, TDI, and Scuffers.
This has nothing to do with re-mapping an ECU for extra power and torque, it is simply changing a figure from 6250 to 5750 which they have been doing for seven years now so have more than covered their development costs.
There is a hell of a difference between mapping a car properly and sticking a generic map in for your car which will be the same one as in the same model car sitting next to you. When you buy an Emerald ECU from Dave Walker there will be numerous maps included to try and match your car as close as possible, but to get it done properly you take your car to him and he will map it to its optimum on the RR, which is what you are paying for, not the few minutes that it takes to upload the base map.
