Buffalo NAS has re-bricked itself. Not a failed drive, so definitely an issue with the unit itself. It was on the latest firmware, so not sure what else to try.

I left it running fine for a few days, then powered it off and on again (just to move it to another room out of the way) and it won't restart. Same error code as before.

PM sent Chris, but I suggest we start looking for a suitable replacement. Any SEers got recommendations?

Not Buffalo, Netgear. I like QNAP, but they're a few quid more than the buffalo. Anyone use anything else? FreeNAS is probably too techy.

Well I managed to clone my drive with Symantec Ghost, and guess what the problem still exists on the new drive with the cloned partition. Feeling a little silly now although does not explain why it will BSOD on a Ubuntu CD?

Took the drives out of the link station and stuck them in a synology, hey presto worked first time.
