I think the major turning point was when AndyG kindly loaned me the NA Exige S2 for the Spazz trip. It was an absolute hoot and in comparison to something like a Subaru, cost next to nothing to run. I would guess that if I was to do the same trip in an Impreza, my tyre bill alone would have been over £2k. My old Time Attack car had been sitting around in bits for nearly 2 years and when I am lucky enough to get to drive someone else's car in the series, there was not a huge amount of point building it back up again. So I put the car up for sale and it has gone to a lucky new owner in Ayrshire.
I have just purchased an S1 from that well known lover of sensible driving with bags of mechanical sympathy, AndyG, I think there must have been some alcohol and NLP involved in the selling process. The car is Andy's old race car and in need of a bit of TLC but is mechanically sound as it has been looked after by Craig from MMC. I do love a shed though and have big plans for the car. For me, the journey of making the car into something interesting is half the fun.
The short term plan for the car is to go for a honda engine for reliability and a bit more power and do a bit of proper racing. In the long run, I would love to do an Elige conversion on it as I have always had a major thing for S1 Exige's
Its' going to be an exciting process
