Battleship on the Clyde

Post by ikarl » Fri Nov 21, 2014 2:19 pm

Guys, looking for some help...

Does anyone remember the Navy Battleship that used to sit on the Clyde?
I vaguely remember going when I was 13 or 14 with the Boys Brigade but cannot for the life of me find anything about it online.
I think it was moored close to the SECC.

Any info would be appreciated!

The Tuxedo Princess was on Broomielaw in the 80s/90s. Had a nightclub on it, and was known affectionately as The Battle Ship because of the amount of fights between patrons. I believe it went to Newcastle? The Glenlee is the Tall Ship outside Riverside Museum (the new transport museum). Navy ships used to visit from time to time, but never stayed long and I don't think the river is now dredged enough for them.

I recall a Royal Navy war ship that was moored on the south side where the science centre is now. That must have been in the late 80's / early 90's. I think it was only there for a few months, but you could do a tour around it.

I remember a big ass landingcraft type thing was moored in either Ayr or Irvine in an attempt to get you to sign up. It was ace as you got to play on the various bits of kit (loved the tank at 7 years old) The signing up thing worked as my brother wanted to join. was knocked back at the medical though as he is colour blind.

Unlikely to have been a Battleship as Vanguard was the last British one floating and she was scrapped in 1960.

Was HMS Belfast not on the Clyde before the Thames?
