Top Gear Christmas Special,
Re: Top Gear Christmas Special,
Pretty enjoyable for me. Predicable, yes but still better than all the other guff that's on
Re: Top Gear Christmas Special,
Not TG's biggest fan but have to say I did enjoy the show, especially Mr May's small tank slapper in the wet. suspect we have all been there to a varying degree in the past....Have to say I also liked the ending where there were no trucks to get them across the river etc etc.

Re: Top Gear Christmas Special,
Utter utter tosh. More contrived than ever; with 2 tonnes of equipment and a crew of 40 they 'had' to modify the cars to carry stuff, not withstanding the fact there was an army of local construction workers building the stadium? At least on the other specials the modifications were at least semi-necessary. I'd have rather it was a 'here's a route not suitable for the cars' type that stuck with that, pointless butchering of the cars for mild/absent comedic effect utterly .. er..pointless.

Re: Top Gear Christmas Special,
I personally think that they sourced the plate first and not the car. "We never changed the plates" said the TG team, but you knew fine well where you were going and what you were doing, but you never imagined how bad it would get.GregR wrote:Who thinks the potential significance of that plate was lost on Clarkson?
Far too much of a coincidence for me. Come on.......... 1982 Falklands and Reg H982 FKL.

Re: Top Gear Christmas Special,

They are petrolheads, as had there been a straight challenge, I would have taken a V8 SWB Landie

Re: Top Gear Christmas Special,
I enjoyed it and I'm only 34
That said...
The plate issue is disgusting and there should be repercussions. I can imagine it was Clarkson's idea as it reeks of his bad taste. They are entertaining to a degree but they'be been at it too long now and should be moving aside to make way for younger presenters and newer cars.
It's odd for the BBC, they change their Radio 1 DJ line ups every few months to keep with the times but have these three running about like they are still 25.

Re: Top Gear Christmas Special,
Only happens in radio , in TV Bruce Forsyth, Terry Wogan, Ronnie Corbett , Jimmy Tarbuck & many others are/ were active well past their sell by date and get work as long as they want.Mellow Yellow wrote:

I think Top Gear ( format) is owned by Clarkson and, the producer, Andy Wilman so they too can call the shots. BBC have had several opportunities to drop it amid a long line of controversies, but it's worth too much £ to them as it sells worldwide. If the BBC do ever drop it, Channel 5 will be banging on Clarksons door to snap it up.

Come on it was good healthy family fun. Best there has been in a few years.
Of course it was utterly contrived and of course they knew what was in the plate. At least he managed to keep his fuzzy wuzzy comments to himself.

Re: Top Gear Christmas Special,
harmless, fairly dull, but it still pulls us all in.
If you genuinely thought it was rubbish and sat through it you've no-one to blame but yourself
Shame we dont have any TV companies willing to get Chris Harris on mainstream TV. But that may be too focused for anyone to take the risk.
Anyway, might get it on iplayer to watch again on the plane next week when I'm not multi-tasking and building a lego castle for Charlotte at the same time

Re: Top Gear Christmas Special,
Although TG show the usual predicable stuff, the scenery and terrain in Tierra del Fuego did get me thinking about hiring a 1200GS in Santiago and heading down to the end of the world some time. Looks like outstanding adventure bike country. Wonder if the Argentinian locals are generally hostile to individual Brits, or is it just a big UK production and provocative no plate that set them off?

Re: Top Gear Christmas Special,
I was thinking a Chris Harris/Steve Sutcliffe combo, with some Suzy Perry interludes would be good, but I think we have all realised the specialised information we want is not going to cut it on the BBC.Andy G wrote:harmless, fairly dull, but it still pulls us all in.

What I want is a super-channel on Youtube, with Chris, Steve, Tom Ford, Harry and the other Evo bloke on one channel, once a week for 1 hour - from new machines, to tinkering to club/racing updates - might be a goer with enough publicity.
What about a Scottish Elises version with you Andy, Tut etc. etc ? - could be a laugh and a slow burner ! Think 'GCN' for cars.....

Re: Top Gear Christmas Special,
Not quite sure what the detractors want out of a Top Gear Special. Off course it's scripted and predictable but it certainly beats Emmerdale, Eastenders and Coronation St. My kids love it and makes great family viewing
