Newbie from Daan saaf - suplimental

Post by Badaxeman » Wed Jan 28, 2015 5:53 pm

So on the way up Norf I got as far as the M25 on the hottest day of the year and sat in traffic not moving for half hour and unable to pull over, concequently it overheated and instead of a nice drive up to Scotland I arrived 10 hours and 3 lift trucks later and with a broken car. :(
I am in Lochgoilhead, where would be a good place to get it fixed?
It popped at the front so I think it's either the rad or popped a pipe.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions! :thumbsup

I don't know of anywhere near there ... rad end cap failure is very common on the standard radiator though the pipes do pop off also.

Murray Motors in Edinburgh would be where I would get it fixed if you can get it towed there; if you need to get it fixed locally, I cannot help - perhaps some of the west coast guys will come up with some ideas.

If it is the rad, get the rad with the alloy welded end caps instead of the crimped on plastic junk that Lotus provide :-)

Cheers,
Robin

P.S. Welcome to the frozen wilderness ... it's looking like it might get a bit chilly!

Welcome!

I have the rad Robin is describing. It's great.

I would discuss recovery to Murray Lotus, with magic-wand-waving Service Direktor Herr Craig Moncrieff.

Or if you could get it to Kenneth Brown Motor Engineers in Hillington, I'd trust them too. Ferry could be a prob if towing so prob still needs to be on a flatbed?

A fairly common failure that will happen sooner or later with the standard rad. Another vote for MMC here. For a main dealers they are competitively priced and if you speak to Craig he will advise and probably let you source the parts yourself if you want :thumbsup

Had exactly the same experience, picked car up from Castle Lotus on a Friday and got into heavy traffic on the M6, at which point the temp gauge went mental, quick call to Robin and he determined rightly the rad hose had gone!

2 flat beds and 6 hours later I was outside Benny's at 3am in the morning, few hours kip and our SE beers session kicked off the next day.

I had the AA drop car off at MMC, and Craig and team had it back to me on Sat afternoon - amazing service!

Best of luck!

Dave
