Looks like we will pick it up tomorrow. Due to the power steering pump failure I managed to get the guy down by another £100 :)

You might need a warm coat.

And a lot more technical skill, ability to changing a bulb will not cut it with that project !!!

Picked up the land rover today. So far been pretty impressed as can manage a 70-75 tuts on the Motorway.

Gear change is definitely different and need to remember that its not a car, loving the fact that you need to think about your driving. Sandra definitely seems more adept at the gearchange than me :(

Using the 911 technique of slow in fast out for bends which seems to settle the car better, however appreciate any advice on best technique.

Love the quirkiness, currently have to roll down the drivers window to get out as the door handle does not work.

Brake light may be dodgy earth as the new bulb I put in has blown already.

Also wanted to say thanks to everyone who gave me some advice. Realise how many people on this forum are willing to spend their own time helping other people out. Greatly appreciated. :thumbsup

Better move fast then, prices are firming up or even rising slightly due to the imminent arrival of the "new" Defender.

Well the winter hack has gone:

Must admit that I was sad to see it go as I really enjoyed the Defender experience. Obviously it had its niggles and needed a little bit more work than I anticipated but it was enjoyable and really capable throughout the winter.

Not all is not lost as we decided to go for a replacement Defender so we picked this up a couple of weeks ago:

We did try and get one of the limited edition models but we left it a couple of days too late as the Heritage all sold out. As ours is an XS it has all the creature comforts and has come with a couple of nice options such as:Audio System Upgrade, Tow Ball Drop Plate and Electrics, Diamond Turned Alloy Wheels, Privacy Glass, Premium Pack Leather, Reat Luggage space Rack and Contrast Black Roof.

Not much else that I would have spec'd myself if I was picking from the catalogue (only difference would have been the "Black Pack").

Strange thing is that I prefer the old agricultural gear change of the older one compared to the new 6 speed box :?

I wondered why your recent purchase appeared for sale so quickly.

My brother -in -law has one specced for delivery in March but issues as to its VAT /Commercial Vehicle status(with rear windows/ seats) might mean he walks away from the deal. Im having bad thoughts about taking his order......

Put it this way - not likely to loose a bundle of money if you do. Amazed at the residuals and they will only get better with it going out of production.

Even though they will be building them in India (seemingly) I don't think they will command the same price due to being a Grey Import and the import companies having to take their cut.

Apparently one of the big utility companies (SSE or Scottish Power) have placed a vast order for Defenders before the end of production, and are going to mothball them till required! I would also expect companies like Twisted etc will be buying plenty as well.
We also tried to get a heritage special edition, but all sold out immediately! Currently we have a 110USW we got new last year, and the dealer has already hinted we may get a large percentage of the initial cost back if we sell towards the end of the year. We have got a new one on order for September, but production is apparently almost all allocated now!!
Still no sign of a replacement for the defender yet, you would have thought they would have got one almost ready by now!!
