Recommend me some driving shoes
Re: Recommend me some driving shoes
I wear Onitsuka Tiger, something like these - http://www.onitsukatiger.com/en-uk#!pro ... d4s2n-9098
They're pretty good in that there's good feel for the pedals, they're narrow and they're normal casual shoes.
The only thing with them is that I've found that my heel can hurt after a while on a whole day out. I'm not sure if driving shoes have a more rounded heel that would be more comfortable but I'm thinking about trying some.
I thought it was hilarious when I turned up for a Walshy day and the man himself turned up in a pair of hiking boots.

I'm another Converse or Puma wearer.
Puma Speed Cats are the best of the Puma bunch from what I've tried, very thin sole and rounded heal, and look like a racing shoe (even have a warning on the inside of the tongue stating they aren't fireproof).
They stopped making them for a while, but I see you can buy new ones now. They are fantastically uncomfy for walking on uneven surfaces though
Drift Cat are comfier, but the sacrifice is a thicker sole which for me gives less feel.
Converse are perfect for popping out for a quick jaunt, or if you have to do something at the other end and don't want to change your shoes, or be wandering around in elf shoes (Speed Cats look really small on my feet!!)

Re: Recommend me some driving shoes
Sparco driving shoes are good in the car, but from my experience they have a very soft sole - great in the car, but wears out quickly if you walk about on them too much. Puma speed cats is what I have been using recently - not as soft overall as the sparcos, but much more durable.
I am a size 11, and can heel and toe in the elise in Caterpillar boots. Just depends on the technique you use - I am more "ball of foot & edge of foot" than "heel & toe".

Re: Recommend me some driving shoes
Another thumbs up for Puma from me, had a number of speedcats, futurecats and their various ilks. Always been great in the car.
Just a word of warning that some of the "more bling" futurecats that I have bought sometimes have a hard edge around the top of the heel. Means their has been a bit of breaking in to do.
However if you want the ultimate driving shoes that look smart you needs some Tods. Ended up getting a suede pair for my birthday when we were in Selfridges of London - they have an amazing selection of driving shoes: http://fashion.telegraph.co.uk/article/ ... world.html

George.
I just bought an Evora.
The kids are on weetabix and water for the foreseeable and Lisa and I have had to cancel our subs to Naked Wines.
Where the h£ll am I going to find £245 for a pair of Tods?! And I thought Ali's bare running shoe was a bit "out there"...
Holy smoke. I think I'm in the wrong universe.

[all firmly tongue in cheek, naturally...thanks everyone for insights, as ever!]

I also like the look of the Piloti shoes but they're hard to come by. Having a quick look, it turns out the UK distributor is in Perth.

I don't suppose anyone knows anything about them?

Heard on forums that they are quite nice, think Ali Crozier may have had a pair (may be wrong)? Interested in feedback as well.hendeg wrote:I also like the look of the Piloti shoes but they're hard to come by. Having a quick look, it turns out the UK distributor is in Perth.

Re: Recommend me some driving shoes
One day, I'll own a pair of these:
http://www.vitallo.com/en/collection/mo ... in-racing/
Current boots are a pair of Sparco suede high tops. Lovely to wear, with a good sole and a heel design which helps pivoting. The dog ate one of the tongues though, so they're not quite as fireproof as they once were

Arriving broadside, in a cloud of smoke......
Re: Recommend me some driving shoes
The Perth agent for piloti is Russell Paterson (RPM) , also Morgan and caterham dealer.
I bought a couple of pairs from them about 3/4 years ago . Really good comfortable shoes for driving , have a balled heel which takes out any pressure points on long journeys . Mine are wearing down and the only problem Is they are not the cheapest shoes , not sure what price they are now but think I paid around £110 for my first pair.
