Thanks for all the good wishes guys and the comments on the results.

I was number two on the list, number three was Michael Duncan, but fortunately not my Mike who is still a DCI in the Met. Not sure whether that was going to be a good or a bad omen. Unbelievably when I went into the dock, feeling a right twat as I tripped over my crutches, the Clerk asked my name, and then stated that I was pleading "not guilty." Fortunately this took a few seconds to sink in and before I could speak, as I was ushered out straight away. It then turned out that the case may not even be heard today as a result, and that I might have to return.

This was then sorted out with Laura and the PF, and I returned to the dock for the presentation of evidence from the Traffic cop, who really helped me out with his report. It was then question and answer from Laura leading to her asking me to give an account in my own words to the Court of why I concentrated on catching my friends up to the exclusion of all else. This gave me the chance to go through my Military career, Wars served in, shot downs and injuries, ending up with the PTSD that sometimes affected me today. Sheriff seemed happy with that, but Laura had told me that the PF would be last and that he would be more severe with his questions. The only one that he nearly caught me out with was asking me if I did not consider that having bought the car only two days before, I did not have the experience to control it at that speed. He seemed happy with the answer, so that was the end of the interrogating.

The Sheriff then retired to read through previous cases of speeding on that road and sentences given, and concluded that due to the weather, road conditions, lack of traffic, clean record, lack of intent, that she would accept a plea of speeding as opposed to dangerous driving, but that she would still have to give me a confiscation. Then there was a bit of a heart stopper as she asked for my licence to be produced and read out the two speeding offences, 3 points the day I drove the car home before the offence, and three points in June down at Hethel. However she said that this actually did not make a difference as she had already decided on a 6 month disqualification.

Relief for it to be finally over after a year, and probably the best result that I could have hoped for.
