That was Royal Marine days, the Sioux ran on 100/130 Avgas so I used that in the Capri. No probs for a couple of years, I know that I fitted Kent cams, and had just one burnt out exhaust valve in that time, so cheap motoring.

By all means give it a polish Clark, it is used to one a week so should not be too bad. You have probably noticed the chrome U in the rear clam badge instead of the proper sized black one, they sent the wrong one, so will try and get another one.

Why they put white undercoat on a black splitter I do not know, I kept touching it up but it was a waste of time after a few road runs. I was going to get it resprayed and Armourfended whilst the car was off the road, on hindsight I wish that I had asked Keith to have the whole car done at my expense before I picked it up. The only other bodywork defect is the front left wing where it made contact with a cone at Alford. I have a white touch up kit that I used and it is only chipped along the rim. The rear spoiler was not put together very well as it has split along the join line, but I don't suppose that it was made to withstand people using it as a handrest to look at the engine.

If you do clean up the suspension and underside, take some photos and we can compare how it has stood up to Scottish road conditions in the past year, as you can see in Keith's rebuild photos that he got it back to as good as new condition.

Hey Tut,

Was the build of N3 captured on the forum? I would love to read it and see some pictures.

If it was and you can post a link that would be great.

Thanks

Danny

I would think the splitter GRP finish was white tut, don't worry about it though, it will be nice and black very soon, I'm going to have a chat to my guys at Roo'd Signs about stone chip protection etc, may get some form of front end wrap to protect it whilst i have it.

I have been looking at how to sort the spoiler, i will take it off and have a proper look at it as it seems to just be bolted on - which is handy as i thought it may be bonded and I'm not sure it would survive removal if it was.

will get it all cleaned up underneath and post up the pictures - hopefully its not too bad and i can get it back to how clean it was when you collected it.

Keith - is the colour just lotus Aspen White? do you have a paint code? its just for when i get time to getting round to tackling the wing repair i will need the paint code.

Here is a pic of the car at the weekend in the sun :-)

Clark,

The splitter and spoiler are just bolted on and splitter was a white grp finish so will always chip back to that.

The White is ford transit white! Nothing expensive or special.

Looks good Clark, the other wheels are gloss black and in better condition so actually improve on the look of the car.

I think a black wrap on the splitter would last longer than paint, and it's probably far enough away from the other black bits that you wouldn't notice any small colour differences, which you could end up with simply by using fresh paint anyway..

That's assuming that a wrap is essentially the same stuff as stone chip protection, but coloured...

Cheers Keith,

I figured that the Gel coat was white, I think I will re-spray the splitter with gloss black then wrap it black, its thinner than armourfend etc. but still a lot tougher than paint,

My M3 bonnet wrap saved it from stonechips on our 'ring trip - so much infact that the front bumper was a different colour afterwards! lol

The 'detailing' began lastnight  !

not something I usually get involved with, I rarely wash my cars, but I would like to make sure N3 is kept tip top while I'm looking after it!

Only managed to do the front clam and windscreen last night, but its coming up well,

I picked up some Gloss Black paint, so the front splitter is coming off and I will re-spray it then wrap it for protection.

Also remembered I has some belt dressing spray, so ill give the belt a spray and see if it stops the intermittent chirping.

Tis a bugger not being able to drive especially when we are moving house, but great to see that Clarky is doing work on the car that I was not able to carry out.

Happy to let him have the use, especially as it will be returned as good or better than when he took ownership.
