3ZR Engines for S1's

Post by StiflerMR2 » Fri Aug 21, 2015 8:01 am

This popped up on my twitter, interesting idea, could be an alternative for anyone looking to swap out the K series:

Not exactly cheap however!

That is quite interesting, actually, I'm surprised that they have gone through all the development for that considering how popular Honda conversions are, and how unpopular (in comparison) Zetec and Audi conversions are.

I wonder what mods are required to the subframe - is the idea that it could be returned to standard fairly easily?

£10k would buy a lot of K-Series, I'd assume half of that would easily buy a K-Series in advance of 160hp, and reliable.. 6 months warranty isn't exactly long either for your £10k spend, and how much power can a PG1 gearbox take (supercharger kits to follow).

Just do not see the point. The Honda is so well established, same price if dealer installed, virtually unburstable, 220hp as standard, 300 with S/C, 345 with CC.

Do it the way that Craig did copying my fitting kit and it is less than half of that.

That price is for a professional install with some warranty using a brand new crate engine modified by the supplier. If you want to compare then it has to be like for like.
So, full honda install by supplier/builder, buying everything from them and it would be at least the same price, probably more. Similarly for a K series modified to 160bhp and supplied and fitted as a new engine ready to drive away again a very similar price if they managed to find a new crate engine in the first place.

My N1 conversion had a new JDM engine fitted, but that was a special deal.

N3 also but I did not pay for that.

Agreed, I actually don't think it's that bad a price for somebody considering their options with a knackered K-series.

Cheers,

K20s were in production then. I imagine they're not now as Honda no longer fit them I think (Ariel must have a few stashed though?).

Looks like the engine Lotus themselves should be using for the base car just now IMHO.

Bit of a coolant weep here on Frolic.

But we begin our journey north tomorrow, with Craig in tow, so it'll all be grand :-)

A few splitters have gone to Monaco ;-)

I suspect it's too rich for DDtB's purse ;-) You can buy 10 sheds, rip the engines out and put into your elise for the same money. Of course you swap one knackered K for another, but it seems cheap at the time :-) Also, knowing Dave I would guess he would want to see a lot more ponies where he to shell out that many, err, ponies ...

Cheers,
Robin
