Absolutely correct Ferg - and we know the Shugmobile was only washed in asses milk and tucked into a warm duvet at night when I had it.Ferg wrote:First shiny shiny. Great work! Doesn't matter how pampered your S1, the roll bar stays are always naff.

Re: Rebuilding The Shed (formerly aka the Shugmobile)
Taken Ferg's advice and bought the nimbus. Not cheap (£100 bucks from eliseparts for 1.2m by 60cm) but hopefully worth it.

Most of the old heatshield was like sawdust so decided to strip all the damaged stuff out

AFTER

Then the fun began cutting and fitting the new nimbus after reading trophybuild.com. Pretty happy with the result and nimbus nicely shaped round each piece.

Well there's a statement that usually ends in tears.

Re: Rebuilding The Shed (formerly aka the Shugmobile)
Did you rivet through the heat shield into the bulkhead? If you've got any scraps of material left you could get some PU sealant (Tiger Seal, for example) and put a 2p size blob over each rivet and then squish in a small piece of the nimbus. Probably overkill, but if you're in there, you might as well give yourself every chance.

Good effort! How many cuts did you get in the process?

Cheers for the tip Robin
Re: Rebuilding The Shed (formerly aka the Shugmobile)
The rebuild has been continuing but not as quick as I'd hoped with progress often limited to Saturdays due to work. Big thanks to Craig for helping with sourcing parts and words of advice.
I'll catch up on posting the internal work sometime soon (engine is back from Paul at ESC and back in the car etc) but currently working on bodywork. Rear clam sanded and prep'd ready to paint. Doors still to do as part of total overhaul. Front clam is now the focus.
I ran the car with cracks from Shugs slow speed nerf into the barriers at cadwell many years ago but decided to get it fixed (eventually).
Starting position after stickers removed.

After hours of sanding outside and strengthening inside it was ready for painting except for the cracks.

I don't have the skills to do the cracks so it's off to a body shop with the remit to fix the cracks and anything else and prep it ready for painting. Schoolboy error-forgot to ask a price!

Ha! Was actually thinking about that car at the weekend - glad it's still on the road to recovery

Nice progress.
The nimbus looks great - the original heat shield was pretty rough though
I thought mine was bad, but in comparison mine is just a couple of holes (that I patched up with strips of sticky aluminium tape).

Re: Rebuilding The Shed (formerly aka the Shugmobile)
Just catching up with this. Yeah - the car has a 4-2-1 manifold and I'd stuck an additional metal heatshield round that, mostly to give the alternator a bit of an easier time. Basically in the process of shoving it down there with little clearance and the subsequent wear where it rubbed on the original, it's done some work on the foil backed foam and stripped it away.Corranga wrote:

Remember Cadwell, I was behind Shug at the Hairpin when he made a slight departure from the track.

It's worth painting the rear wishbone mounts too as they are steel and tend to rust.
