Just done S1 wiper conversion
Car already had, so I believe, an S2 wiper arm, but had one of those 'Aero type blade' wiper blades. The end stuck up and didn't look right, so. Have now fitted, following the techie bit on SELOC, a blade from a Espace (Halfords W205). Couldn't get black tubing, but once cable tied in the clear looks fine, well to me.....I connected it so I still have the O/S washer jet too and it appears to sit flat and covers far more screen than the old blade did. Happy days....
Next up, when they arrive, some superbright L.E.D side light bulbs, then looking at a HID kit...maybe...still not totally sure on that yet. Jon

OOOO.KAY.....So found out that side lamps are in fact the old style bayonet 501's n not push in 501's......bollox...so will need to sort a set of new fittings n solder in...looks like it's easier if i take the wheel off too....all good fun eh.....Jon

Can you not get bayonet equivalents rather than butchering the loom?
I'm interested in your washer mod, sounds good. Pics?

Re: Just done S1 wiper conversion
Rain X just a good a mod as the wiper blade

Re: Just done S1 wiper conversion
Yes.....my son found the bulbs I need, so as you say, no need to damage/change loom....young eyes on EBAY made all the difference!! Wide mod is on SELOC Techwiki section in S1 section, all good clear info and pics. I also have RainX for good measure lol.... Jon

Re: Just done S1 wiper conversion
RainX on the windscreen is great, for about two weeks, then it's smear-tastic. IMHO
Re: Just done S1 wiper conversion
Works really well for me - I use the glass cleaner spray version. Make sure you polish well to remove smears when first applying.
And use the wiper very sparingly

Rainex gets a big plus from me too. I treated my screen before heading south last week to Donnington.
My wiper blade decided to break up south of Glasgow on the M74 in heavy rain. I managed to get the wiper back together ( sort of) and it got me to Donnington based on very little use of the wiper. The rain seemed to run off at speed and I just followed the car in front at a distance.
Unfortunately wiper broke up again on track but held together fine with tie wraps. However it completely broke up on way home, now got new S2 arm and wiper jet washing assembly coming from Elise parts.

Re: Just done S1 wiper conversion
Pics as requested....wiper is longer than the Aero Blade job that was on, keeps flush to the screen and looks better to me. Jet system on blade works great along with the o/s standard washer jet. Keeping the screen clean with glass cleaner and re applying RainX every week or two helps alot. Mind, when I got the car, less than two weeks ago she had a new screen fitted so it's in very good condition. Jon

Yep, the 2in1 glass cleaner/ repellent version is the one to use. Much easier to apply than the standard RainX and doesn't smear as much either.campbell wrote:Works really well for me - I use the glass cleaner spray version. Make sure you polish well to remove smears when first applying.

Sounds like a good tip to use the 2 in 1 then instead.Stevoraith wrote:Yep, the 2in1 glass cleaner/ repellent version is the one to use. Re: Just done S1 wiper conversion
If you apply a harder wearing glass sealant (gtechniq, gyeon ect) you'd apply it less often, the hardest wearing ones are good for 30k ish miles. they preform better and don't smear. On the downside they are pernickety to apply and expensive in comparison to rainx.
Re: Just done S1 wiper conversion
I had the Citroen AX spray bar on mine, plus a flat blade on an S2 arm, but just changed it to an Espace Bosch wiper with spray attachment as it's neater, and flat blades don't seem to bend enough for the Elise.
I ordered a BOSCH 609 Renault Espace Spray Bar Windscreen Wiper Blades from eBay - £17.45 for a pair
Be aware that plenty seem to sell the wipers with no spray attachment
RainX wise I always used the spray on cleaner and mixed some of the normal stuff in with the wiper fluid to keep it topped up, though my car hasn't actually seen the rain for a while now
If you haven't done it already, the VW / Skoda wiper relay mod is very good too - programmable intermittent wipe for the cost of the part, and fitting is just pull out the old one and pop in the new one!
