2bular Back box for Exige - 7" & 8" oval options

Post by a4drk » Mon Nov 09, 2015 12:14 am

Has anyone tried the 7 inch & 8 inch optional tail pipe exhausts ?
according to the website they are meant to be quieter,

I need to do something, as mine is 101.5 db
got black flagged at Donnington for being too noisy

Jim built me an exhaust specifically for my engine spec, we went with the largest possible box size to keep the noise down. Never had any issue at Donington. I would suggest the person to ask would be Jim Valentine himself. Unless standards have fallen in the last few years, the service was always first class.

The mistake most people make is speccing an exhaust with to large a bore thinking they will get more power, you cannot silence the exhaust effectively with a massively oversized bore.
The engine in my S1 was putting out just under 200bhp at 8000rpm and the 1 3/4" system was specced as optimum for that engine. Jim has a software program that works out gas velocities from rpm and engine capacity. The exhaust is specced from that. Go too big and the silencing is less effective and you loose the scavenge effect.

I hope he hasn't just said, fcuk it I will just sell the biggest bore I can, that would be a real shame.
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

Make sure that the black flags at Donnie were caused by your exhausts, with N3 yellow it was the induction that was the problem.

Is the 6/7/8" not meaning the diameter of the actual back box rather than the tail pipe? I think the tail pipe's the same size on all of them. Could be yours has lost it's packing or are you running with a sports cat? I had the 8"x24" on my RGB and still got black flagged at Zandvoort although that was with a sports cat.

Neil, think you are right. All the tailpipes are 6"
It's the diameter of the backbox

When I ordered my exhaust I was given the choice of three primary bore sizes. 1 1/2, 1 3/4 and 2 inch. The Toyota engine cars may only be offered in one size I don't know.
