S1 headlights

Let's be honest,they're pretty crap, and even though I have decent aftermarket HID's they still don't look very good, or modern for that matter. who made them originally? (hella?)

I've had a decent look online and can't see any replacements, anybody know if some exist?

I did find this pic, and while it isn't that clear they certainly look different

I don't like them either lol.... nothing is going to look right on an S1 other than standard if you ask me. HID is the only upgrade in my eye, unless the LED option gets developed...

Tis an S1, stick anything else on and it is not an S1.

Just my opinion but upgrade the bulbs and the headlights for the S1 blend in as they were designed to.

Would love to keep the same size headlights behind the same covers, as you say they look right, but if the headlights could be replaced for a more modern one (for example a xenon headlight) with the same dimensions so it could be fitted into the existing locations, that would be ideal.

Green car is a guy on seloc who developed the lights himself. Was selling kits. Sorry I can't remember who just now, but a search should bring up his thread.

Was also looking to see if hella make a universal bi xenon headlight in even remotely the correct size. Might drop them an email too.

Properly adjusted, S1 driving lights are excellent IMHO. As for dipped lights, they're just too close to the ground really. Slightly better bulbs are the cheapest and most reliable route I think.

Plus correctly aligned driving lamps for when the road ahead is clear

I always found the switch from main beam & driving lights to dipped headlights was the problem as the driving lights were good but without them it's like - erm .......someone turned the lights out!!

I have Osram Night Breaker bulbs in my S1, a good cheap upgrade over normal bulbs.
Have bulb replacement LEDs fitted in my T5, they are H7s but sure there is an equivalent H4.

Ditto on the Osrams, they are a really good upgrade imo, and only £10 too

Chinese knockoff HIDs have helped in the 340 but it does have projectors. I ended up with rally bulbs in my S1 which ever so slightly melted the looms.

I think the issue with sticking proper projector lamps in an S1 (a la what Singer did on old 911s) is the lack of space behind the lamp before you hit the front wheel. I remember seeing a pic of one mock up and it had the hardware sticking right forward and into the headlight cover with all the mounting gubbins showing - not pretty.

Like Sanj, I had rally bulbs in mine for a while and they melted the connectors, so I found some aftermarket ceramic connectors. Weren't perfect, but better than a standard bulb. I think stuff like the Osrams mentioned above are just as good these days though and you don't risk melting the loom!
