Alpine Sat Nav
Re: Alpine Sat Nav
I bought an sd card off eBay just to do the update it was less than a fiver. It's worth trying another one if you think that's at fault.
Re: Alpine Sat Nav
What size Dave, there used to be limitations on reading above 16 or 32 but that should not really apply now.
It says at least 8GB and the files are only in mb's so I will order that size.

Re: Alpine Sat Nav
I got a 32gb tut.
Re: Alpine Sat Nav
Hacked it yesterday. I was going to throw the SD away as neither the Mac nor the PC would not recognise it so ordered another. Reverted to the old days with MSDOS commands and CHKDSK but no joy. Then something clicked and it appeared so was able to Format it as FAT32.
Went back and to to the car six times last night, has to be done in at least three stages even if you get it right first time which is unlikely. I was installing the Speed Camera files as well. Annoying thing is that there is no clear indication that it has taken and there are some horror stories on the forums of it crashing the SatNav and not being able to recover.
SC files are from here and cost £6 for a year. You can put the whole World in if you wish to but I stuck to Western Europe.

Re: Alpine Sat Nav
these are supposed to be the later / better replacements of the old Alpine in the early Evoras.
I have just bought a 2009 Evora and tried to buy 1 of these Alpine INE-W920R Double Din from the auction website, but was too late, SOLD OUT
still looking, so if 1 of you wants to sell his 920 then let me know ?

Re: Alpine Sat Nav
I bought one for the van too, excellent unit and the sound quality is great compared to the old standard stereo that was there before.dlogan wrote:I did tut it took forever but I "think" it worked. If I remember rightly it was very fiddly and was a few months ago. I didn't take out the camera offer as its only for the van. I also can't get the iPhone/video to work but that doesn't bother me.
Bluetooth streaming works very well.
Only thing I fancy now is some better speakers.

I had to buy a gps receiver (£10), the power cable (£8), a microphone to use it with the phone (£9) and a fitting cage and double din surround (£12) all easily sourced from ebay and needed as my van didn't have a decent stereo in the first place. The Alpine unit is very cheap though so even with these purchases it still a great buy.
As for updates, I've just got round to it and it was pretty straightforward and my unit gave confirmation of the updates when they were completed (and progress during the map updates) .

I quite like the lotus start up screen and I think its better than the Nissan badge it should have.

Sorry Bob but I'll be keeping mine.

Re: Alpine Sat Nav
Will have to do another check on mine Don as it does not show the Fochabers by-pass which was built three years ago.
However it does show the date now as 2014 whereas it was 2012 before. The Speed Cam update worked fine and brings up a new menu for setting all the options.

Re: Alpine Sat Nav
I've not checked mine for roads yet as I've not really used it in anger. Will be trying it soon though.
Re: Alpine Sat Nav
Are you going to subscribe to SCDB? Could you check the Fochabers bypass for me please if you get chance. It was opened on Jan 2012.

Re: Alpine Sat Nav
Probably won't bother with the speed cams.
Is Fochabers bypass the a96? If so its on mine. Looks like a bypass going past but not into Fochabers.

Re: Alpine Sat Nav
When I did the map updates it took ages and was obvious it was updating as it had a progress bar etc.
