Ordering meat online

Post by Sanjøy » Sun Dec 13, 2015 8:46 pm

Looking to have beef for Christmas dinner and very late in ordering as been away. Normally use Foreman & Field but their bone in rib of beef is too big for the 4 adults. Can anyone suggest a company they have used before, would prefer to buy Scottish if I can.

Gillian suggests either Donald Russell or Meat/ Market porter

Thanks, had been looking at Donald Russell and noticed their beef is "shock frozen". Reason for concern?

You can not go wrong with DR Sanj, but they are expensive. Do not worry about the flash freezing, we buy nearly all our meat/bacon on line from various suppliers, some fresh and some frozen, but unless we eat it straight away it is always frozen and sometimes eaten a couple of years later.

They do a single rib roast but it is too small and too costly. Best bet is this, 8lb but much better value and great cold.

Westin Gourmet is where we buy most of our meat from, special offer at present is a 5.5lb Rib Roast at £34 plus £4 delivery which will be hard to beat.

And at this time of year My Dear Old Mum has a family gathering, makes a monster steak pie with DR stew and it's the dog's bollocks. Not literally.

Do you not have a good local butcher, they'll usually take an order and you should be assured of better quality. We are luck to have Costco on our doorstep, which is supplied from Inverurie, top quality at a reasonable price.
