Did you manage to get one of the Heritage/Adventure versions? If not what spec did you go for?ruadh08 wrote:We have just got a new one, sitting here to be registered 1st Jan,
I tried to get one and ended up being 3 days too late down to the dealer as all the allocation had sold. However meant that we got a stock one and an extra year to enjoy it.

Spotted a few heritage ones on the M6 yesterday; I'm all for retro / throwback colours, but that's not a particularly nice one.

I pondered getting a Defender as occasional use / long term keeper but Heritage models didnt do it for me

Looked at An adventure, but quite a lot of money for what they are. Just gone for another 110 USW, XS spec, but will hopefully add a few tasty extras in the not too distant future.douglasgdmw wrote:Did you manage to get one of the Heritage/Adventure versions? It doubles up as a work vehicle for access to remote sites, so have to keep it practicle as well.
We just sold our last one at 2 years old, for not far off new money!!!

Obviously a subjective thing, I really like the Heritage.
I think the Defender thing for me would be (bear with me on this...) style over substance. The true 'substance' (being the bulletproof build and off road crdentials) matter not to me on the school run so I'd be buying it for the image. In reality the heavy clutch, the road noise and the cold would be too much.

The new style Defender is completely different to Defenders of old. Our previous Defender (86 300TDi) you could not have a conversation above 50mph, with the new one your at motorway cruising speed and can hear each other.
The new Defender has an amazing heater and we are often turning it down (it does not do cold) where the previous one would only heat up 40+ miles into a journey.
However the old one seems better built than the new one as had a couple of minor issues , probably down to the fact it's handbuilt whereas the old one had been around so long the niggles were kind of ironed out.

Exactly why I bought the G500 (and am going to get another early next year). I cannot think of one thing the defender does better /worms open.GregR wrote:Obviously a subjective thing, I really like the Heritage.

Defender is British - that is enough to convince me. ( can't argue that the G500 is probably better in most/ all areas though
)
I was truly amazed at the huge numbers of AMG wagons in Dubai when we were there.

I really fancied one... until I drove my father-in-laws 90... it is an early 1990's one to be fair.GregR wrote:Obviously a subjective thing, I really like the Heritage.
