Seamens discharge.

Post by tut » Thu Jan 07, 2016 12:52 am

Just received this from my SIL Jamie. Can anybody help out?

"I am on the lookout to get a British Seamans Discharge Book, you can get one in a day but just require a company stamp and signature. Would you know any offshore guys that might be able to help or point me in the right direction? Unfortunately don’t have much connections in Aberdeen!"

To get a seaman book AFAIK you have to be crew on a vessel flagged out of a country to which you are applying for. So if you want a UK seaman book the ship you are on has to UK registered.
I have a seaman book for Marshall Islands because that is where our ships are registered, same when I was with Diamond.

What does he need it for tut and how much of a hurry is he in? I'm at sea just now but might be able to assist/point in right direction provided its nothing too dodgy :)

Its usually only for crew as Mike says. Working on vessels as a service engineer we would often benefit from them for cheaper flights so looked into but as we were not tied to any vessel it did not seem possible.

However the Rolls Royce guys (our competitors) had them but no idea how they managed it.

Maybe its changed so Ill ask around.

If it's to log seatime then you need a Discharge Book. If its just so the Company can get cheap flight tickets then you need a Seamans Card.

You can apply through the Marine Coastguard Agency:
https://www.gov.uk/get-seamans-discharg ... amans-card
https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... d-msf-4509

Many years ago I applied by booking an appointment at the Marine Office in Aberdeen.
