We have been running with an 8% cut to hours sice January. Although we are doing better than alot of our competitors. HEard NOV are shutting up and a few smaller firms locally are shutting.

My best mate owns a machine shop in Glenrothes. They dropped from 40hr weeks to 29hr weeks for a few months in Q3 last year but the closure of a lot of their rivals meant they picked back up again.
Unfortunately the slump has continued and although they have orders until the end of the year, they're not enough to pay all the bills so unless a miracle happens he's now looking at closing the doors at the end of April.

The effects of the oil slump are felt hard all across the country.

Did anyone else see Andrew Neil interviewing Nicola Sturgeon last week? It was fascinating.

I didn't see that. But I have done now. Wow. *Everyone* needs to take a look at that intriguing exchange.

If you ever wanted figures laid bare in a way we can understand, Mr Neil's researcher done good...

I have had and my 10% WA bonus removed so far, I am not complaining as I am still working. The vessel I work on has its charter up for renewal, so unless the company I work for manage to screw the day rate down I may be looking to do something else. I would go back to working on ROV's if they will have me back, kinda miss it anyway, it would be a fine change if nothing else. Will see what happens.
If it aint broke, dont fix it....

It's hit me as well - was contracting the last 2 years with WGPSN but watched the department shrink from 210 to 60 in a few months so decided to move on (recently heard it's now completely gone).

I was forced to take a position in Leicester and commute weekly.... it's not exactly great but at least i'm in work. Miss home, and my 4 month old son though :(

Plan was to 'cut our cloth' accordingly and ride the storm, but now looking at any position/industry closer to home.

Currently going through another round of redundancies and could be more in the future even if I survive this round.
I feel a bit guilty because long service and a fairly generous payout would mean we're not financially impacted for over a year. Some others would need to sell their house after a couple of months...

I moved recently to a new company which has 2 upsides

The boss drives the positive message and is one of the few in the oil industry that does

He is more then likely to disappear south of we get independence

And i'll be following him

Its not different to the independence debate, which this isn't about in the slightest, but things will change from now on. And that is a positive message, agree with that whole heartidly. onwards and sideways...

I work in a small machine shop, I've lost 10-15hrs over time a week and had a 20% wage cut so far things were looking by grim in Jan/beginning of Feb but things seem to be picking up, we have seemingly more work going through the doors and are ticking over. Like others have said I'm just glad to still be in a job.

That said Everyone is facing a grim reality, the personal stresses coupled with the stresses passed on by management from company worries and ever growing customer demands with shorter lead times are fast becoming one of the biggest problems creating a highly strung workforce resulting in a higher rate of scrap jobs and overall lower productivity.

Think that there will be a lot more casualties before it's over!
